Story time throwback! A memory from 2016 popped up on my personal page today. Nine years younger version of me, rocking the full caveman look with less gray hair and a hairline that started its slow retreat. Getting old is not fun... the body ages faster than the mind.

This spot has been part of my life since I was a kid. I’ve made countless memories here through my youth and adulthood. I even camped out a few times, which some locals didn’t love, yelling “you creek people.” I just shrugged it off and kept enjoying the peace of the outdoors.

I’ve always felt at home outside, for as long as I can remember. Maybe it’s something deeper. Perhaps it is the Native American blood that runs through my veins giving me that connection I’ve always felt to the land. Whatever it is, places like this have a way of grounding me and soothing my soul.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend. Do you enjoy browsing your fb memory tab?

This populated my memory tab from two years ago. I love seeing photos and post in the memories tab as it just reminds me of my adventures and captures.

I went chasing rainbows after a storm rolled through Utica, hoping the mix of sunlight and passing showers would give me that perfect rainbow in the sky.

Instead, I found myself at Proctor Park, watching the rain drop on and off while the sun kept shining. No rainbow ever showed up but the bright, colorful playground lit up the whole scene.

Almost three years. That’s how long I’ve been trying to capture a frog on a lily pad. Why you ask... why not!

Years and countless hours at the water’s edge… Moments where I lost hope. Attempts that ended with nothing but empty pads and me feeling defeated.

But I kept going. Sometimes the photo you want is the one that refuses to come easy. I am stubborn. When I envision a photo I want, I keep going even if it took almost three years. This may see boring for some but for me it is a challenge I gave myself and it finally paid off... better late than never.

If you know frogs, you know how skittish they are. The slightest sound, the smallest shift of light, and they vanish.

Three years. One frog. One lily pad. Worth every second.

Green frog fun facts

Green Frogs can subtly shift their skin tone depending on temperature, stress, and surroundings.

In males, the tympanum...the round “ear" behind the eye is noticeably larger than the eye. In females, it’s about the same size.

Their skin produces a protective mucus layer that helps prevent dehydration and shields them from UV rays.

They leap before they look as green frogs often jump into the water at the slightest movement even if the “threat” is just a dragonfly.

Adult lifespan varies averaging five to ten years in the wild.

Artist reception and awards at Munson Museum earlier this evening! I had to stop by to show support for all the artists and to show my appreciation and thanks for having my piece, Big John, on display.

While I didn't bring home a ribbon, I'm incredibly excited to share that Big John sold!

To the person who purchased this piece, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope Big John's strength, beauty, and story bring joy every time you see it hanging on your wall. Your support means more than you know.
