A twisted kitten killer who microwaved cats for fun is back living in his family’s nearly $1 million home after serving just one day of a four-year prison sentence.
Thomas Martel, 25, returned to the six-bedroom property in the affluent Chicago suburb of Northbrook following his extraordinary same-day release from prison.
The 3,056-square-foot home has two-and-a-half bathrooms, two fireplaces and an attached garage.
Martel pleaded guilty to animal torture and aggravated cruelty to animals after prosecutors said he drowned, microwaved and decapitated kittens.
He was sentenced to more than four years in prison but received credit for more than 1,000 days spent on electronic monitoring while his case was pending.
That allowed Martel to walk free from the Illinois Department of Corrections on June 23 - the same day he entered its custody.

A dog is sitting upright inside, safely elevated above the pavement while its owner pulls it along.

The exact location and backstory of the photograph have not been reliably confirmed. Viral posts often identify the man as being in Arizona, although visible details in the image appear more consistent with Las Vegas.

What is not in doubt is the danger beneath the cooler's wheels.

Veterinary experts warn that asphalt and concrete can become far hotter than the surrounding air. Dogs can suffer painful burns, blisters and damaged paw pads after walking on overheated surfaces.

Cornell University recommends placing your hand or bare foot against the pavement for about 10 seconds. If you cannot comfortably keep it there, the surface is likely too hot for a dog.

Safer options include walking early in the morning or later in the evening, choosing grass and shade, carrying smaller dogs when necessary or using properly fitted protective boots.

A wheeled container should always remain open and well ventilated. It should never be sealed with an animal inside or treated as a substitute for shade, drinking water and protection from overheating.

The photograph is funny because the dog looks completely comfortable with its unusual ride.

It is meaningful because the owner noticed something easy for humans wearing shoes to forget.

His barks were the only clue 💔

People heard a dog barking nonstop and followed the sound until they found him trapped deep inside a narrow concrete opening with no way to climb out. Rescuers worked carefully to free him, and after hours of effort, they finally lifted him to safety.

Before long, the exhausted pup was back on solid ground, wagging his tail and soaking up all the attention he could get 💙
