A westbound BNSF train passes the Confluence Café and crosses over the mouth of the Klickitat River.
This photo actually has a fun story behind it as well! .smyth and I had planned to drive a loop, east along 84 on the Oregon side to Biggs Junction, cross the bridge, and then head back west on 14 on the Washington side, stopping at scenic spots along the way. One of the places I had wanted to stop was the Confluence Café, known mainly for its good food, coffee, and beautiful views, but known to me because it's supposed to be a good railfan spot. I found out about it probably a little over 6 months ago, but being that its about a 2 hour round trip from my house, I hadn't found the time to go yet. At the time I took this photo, I didnt actually realize that that was the Café off to the right side of the photo despite planning to go there later in the day. As we continued our loop, leaving Biggs Junction I went to set my GPS for the Café only for Google to tell me that they had closed already because it was past 3pm. I looked at the parking lot on Google Maps and decided it would still be worth stopping because the parking lot seemed like it would still have a good view of the tracks. I'll admit, after setting the GPS, I didn't look at it much cause I was just focused on enjoying the drive and the scenery. While glancing to my left at said scenery, I realized that you could see the fence for the viewpoint we were at a few hours earlier. While I was blabbering about how cool that was, Konnor was trying to tell me that we were about to pass the parking lot we had planned to stop at. It was at that moment, passing it at 40mph (or whatever the speed limit was), that I realized the picture I had taken, the one you see here, was of the Confluence Café. As bummed as I was to not stop at it, I didn't feel it was worth turning around for, especially being that it was closed anyways. Now that I know the hours, I'll definitely plan to come back, so keep an eye out for those photos at some point in the future!
