My first cyanotype. 💙

I will admit that I thought this medium would be a more accessible art form for me, however; I am facing the reality that most things are just not accessible to me anymore — there is a growing list of things that are either impossible or require a great deal of pain and suffering to accomplish. Just this single print absolutely took it out of me and I was fighting through every second just to make it to the end. 😮‍💨

Any bit of art that exists on this Earth is a miracle but it is especially miraculous when disabled and chronically ill people create art. The process alone is healing for body and mind and the outcome is never the same but always rewarding to bear witness to and humbling to share with those who care enough to give pause for something made with my very own trembling and weak hands.

Did you know Kooyooe Pa’a Panunadu is all that remains of the ancient inland sea known as Lake Lahontan (not that one…that’s a reservoir)? The vast sea covered a large majority of Nevada/the Great Basin, as well as some parts of Northeastern California and Oregon. 🌊

These photos stole my breath, I love capturing emotion and relationships and the unique ways they are different from others because each one has its own fingerprint, no two are alike. Thank you to anyone who has ever let me immortalize them in pixel. I am ever lucky to be trusted in such a way. Memories are precious, to freeze them in their tracks in a way that you can come back to years and years on, is a very special community role that I will always be grateful to hold.

I will admit it was tough looking through my viewfinder at this beautiful sight, as a child without a momma on this Earth. It was also incredibly special — witnessing a mother’s love for her children has always healed pieces of my inner child that couldn’t understand why her own mother didn’t like her. Now life is about bearing witness to these moments and continuing to heal the parts of me that were abandoned over and over again until I couldn’t be abandoned anymore.

I am ever grateful to the magic of collecting light and translating it into something we can hold forever, a brief moment in time that always slips away so swiftly — we blink and they’re gone. I am also ever grateful to my own momma for being the match that ignited my love for photography and light at an incredibly young age and continued to fuel that fire as I grew up. I was a photographer before I even knew how to be a human. 📸

Thank you for reading and especially for being patient with me during this time of grief as I process in the most accessible to me way; photography. This page started out as a dedicated space for me to share my photography and the purpose of this Instagram has only expanded to now include many other mediums that bring me ease in this life, but none such as the capturing of light and the click of the shutter. 🫶🏼

This song reminds me of my appreciation for my mother — for the lungs, heart, soul, and brain that she created in her belly. And it also reminds me of my friends, of the water in the rivers and lakes that nourish my body, of the mountains and the sunshine, of the moon, of dogs, of creatives that use their very own hands to breathe things to life, and my own body that very literally carries me from day to day.

Here’s some things as of late:

1. THE view. The only one that matters.
2. THE view pt II.
3. The locksmith hands that I love.
4. The nonbinary hands that I love.
5. Water that flows from the snowcapped mountains and out of my faucet.
6. Old friends and new, Kristi and Ari.
7. Matching feets, Penny feets.
8. The light dancing on water in a way my brain still can’t fathom.
9. Alysh, my dear.
10. Momma’s memorial ring featuring Truckee River jasper, returned for a brief time to the waters of her birth.

Photography is not simply the art of noticing & documenting, it is a very historical art rooted in appreciation, reciprocity and most of all, love.

There is something about being 32 years old and carrying in my pocket living proof of my longest-running relationship, that brings me an ease like a breeze on the hottest day, or an awe like that experienced during the first snow of the year. Like witnessing a miracle, how can *this* possibly even be? This 27 year friendship, this sisterhood, this sacred and shared knowing of one another, a genuine acceptance — are there *really* any words that describe such a thing the way it deserves? I think photos do a better job; each pixel a novel waiting to be read.

I was a photographer before I was anything else, and I was her best friend before I was a lot of things to anyone else, too. 🤍

Thank you for being here, yes, you. 🫵🏼 I love you.
