Today is Flag Day. Since 2016 there have been three locations in Vernon where the U.S. flag and the six military service flags, U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine have been flying on tall flagpoles.
The Journal Inquirer reported that the idea of a volunteer effort to raise money for the flags and flagpoles started with Carl Schaefer and Terry Bundy. David Smith helped organize the project. They were joined by Vince Castagno, Jerry Gallo, David Lee, Chet Morgan and Ralph Zahner to form the Vernon Military Flags Committee.
The first photo shows the flags flying at Fox Hill Memorial Tower. The remaining photos are from the ceremonial raising of the flags on the town green on March 19, 2016.
The remaining flag location is at the northwest corner of the intersection of Route 30 and Grove Street.

Facebook says today would have been Bryan Flint’s 67th birthday.

Bryan believed compassionate action for neighbors in distress was a requirement for all of us. His enormous amount of hands-on work with Cornerstone and other organizations directly reduced human suffering.

Others have stepped forward, but in many ways he was irreplaceable.
