Introvert vs. Extrovert Senior Sessions

One of the biggest myths about senior pictures?
That every senior should look the same.

The truth is...An introverted senior and an extroverted senior should NEVER have the exact same session experience.

An extrovert may thrive with:
- bold locations
- lots of movement
- dramatic outfits
- energetic posing

An introvert may thrive with:
- quieter locations
- softer posing
- slower direction
- more natural moments

Neither is better.
Neither is wrong.

The goal isn’t to force a personality.
The goal is to celebrate it.

The best senior pictures don’t happen when a senior tries to become someone else.
They happen when they feel comfortable enough to be themselves.
That’s why personalization matters.

Because your session should look like YOU.
Not a Pinterest trend.
Not your best friend’s session.
Not someone else’s personality.
Yours.

SENIOR BOY MOMS: Can I let you in on a little secret?

You’re not supposed to know how to prepare your son for senior pictures.
Most moms have spent years helping daughters choose outfits, style their hair, and get ready for special events.

But when it comes to senior boys?
Most families are left wondering:
“What should he wear?” “Does he need a haircut?” “What shoes go with this outfit?” “What if he gets a breakout?” “Will he even enjoy this?”

That’s exactly why we’ve built an entire preparation system specifically for our senior guys.

THE 3 PHRASES WE BAN ON SENIOR SESSIONS:

There are exactly THREE phrases that are banned during my senior sessions. And yes... moms, dads, grandparents, and seniors are all guilty of saying them.

Here they are:
1. “SUCK IT IN!”
The second someone says this, I immediately shut it down. Why? Because your senior does not need to spend their session worrying about being smaller.
Senior pictures are about celebrating who they are right now. Not who they think they should be.
So no. We don’t suck it in. We stand tall, fix posture, and let confidence do the work.

2. “I HATE THE WAY MY ______ LOOK.”
My nose. My smile. My arms. My freckles. My teeth. My hair. I’ve heard them all. And every single time I remind my seniors of something important:
The things you criticize most about yourself are often the exact things your family loves most about you.
That smile? Mom loves it. Those freckles? Dad thinks they’re adorable. That laugh? Your best friends recognize it instantly. Your senior session isn’t about erasing what makes you unique. It’s about celebrating it.

3. “EW. I LOOK AWFUL IN THAT PICTURE.”
Nope. Banned. Because what usually happens is this: You glance at a photo for half a second. You immediately zoom in on one tiny thing. And completely ignore everything else. Meanwhile, everyone standing behind you is saying: “Wait... what?! That’s gorgeous!” We are often our own harshest critics.
That’s why I tell my seniors: Don’t look for flaws. Look for moments. Look for confidence. Look for personality. Look for YOU. Because that’s what everyone else sees.

There’s a difference.

Anyone can take pictures.
But your senior year only happens once.

Seniors: Here’s an outfit mistake that can seriously limit your senior pictures:

SUPER short hemlines.

Now before you come for me...

I’m not saying you can’t wear a mini dress, mini skirt, or shorts.

I’m saying you need to test them first.

Here’s why:
The best senior galleries include lots of variety.

Walking.
Sitting.
Twirling.
Squatting.
Leaning.
Moving.
Laughing.

The more comfortable you can move in an outfit, the more variety you’ll have in your final images.

But if you’re constantly tugging, adjusting, or worrying about your outfit, your posing options become much more limited.

Here’s my favorite test:

Before choosing an outfit for your senior session, try sitting, squatting, bending, and walking around in it.

If you’re uncomfortable doing those things in your bedroom, you’ll probably be uncomfortable doing them during your session too.

And confidence always photographs better than discomfort.
