I’ve been sort of avoiding this post, but it needed to happen. I stopped taking client sessions after the busy fall season last year while I was working full time. I thought I would resume client sessions in summer but I’ve been so busy with mandatory trainings, college courses to get my teaching license renewed, and taking care of my own kids that I haven’t been able to fit any in. Because of this and in anticipation of the craziness the fall will bring, I have decided to shut my business down. I appreciate that so many of you have returned to me year after year to capture your love and memories. I am truly so grateful for each one of you.

Love and peace,
Chelsea

I’ve been completely neglecting my website for…well… and EXTREMELY long time. It just hasn’t made the top of the priority list while I spend my days homeschooling my kids and carting them to skateparks! I couldn’t help but blog this session though. I was so honored when Jodie and Zach chos...

**Warning. Graphic photos**
Over the long weekend I had the opportunity to spend some time in the water with my husband without the kids! It was amazing. Until we came across something horrifying. On our way out to enjoy our beautiful inlet, we saw some people fishing and crabbing at ’s nature preserve area. This is very common, so we waved as we paddled by. We noticed something floating right next to the people wading in the water with their crabbing gear so we assumed it was something marking a crab trap. About an hour or so later, we paddled by the same spot on our way back to the kayak launch area. The floating thing was oddly still there so we got a little closer to see if the fishers/crabbers had left behind trash- which you know is a very common occurrence, if you’ve been following me for any amount of time. We pick up after the fishermen regularly. This time around it was even worse than just the usual pile of trash. It was a beautiful turtle that had been hooked by a line left behind in the water. One of our beloved diamondback terrapins got hooked while swimming and was unable to free itself. It suffered trying to escape. And died. This is heartbreaking all on its own. But what’s even more disturbing is the complete apathy exhibited by the other humans who just stood in the water, next to a dead, trapped turtle, WAVING HELLO to us and SMILING as we paddled by. I can’t even comprehend this. It makes me physically nauseous even writing this out right now. My husband and I paddled over and worked hard to get set this poor soul free so it wouldn’t be stuck there, hooked by human garbage until it decomposed. We were far too late, but we set it free anyway. It didn’t deserve to float there, trapped and on display for all the fishermen, boaters, crabbers...humans. If you fish in these precious waters, I’m BEGGING you to do EVERYTHING you possibly can to remove your lines, hooks, nets, lures, and garbage from this treasured area of beauty and wildlife. Fellow humans- we have to do better. We must. This turtle deserved to enjoy these waters far more than we deserve to. We’re ruining it. And it’s not fair. It’s heartbreaking 💔 @ Pleasure House Natural Area

A list of things I don’t want to end when the pandemic is over:
✨people spending tons of time outside with their families ✨seeing people eating outdoors instead of packed inside of restaurants (it feels like Europe when I see it 🤩)
✨people truly prioritizing who they want to spend their time with ✨neighbors gathering in driveways to socialize and check on each other
✨people washing their hands regularly, especially after using the bathroom ✨Americans not working themselves to the bone because that’s what we’re expected to do and told it’s normal. People in other countries work 30 hour work weeks and still get their jobs done.
✨people not spending hours and hours walking around in stores finding things to buy just to find things to buy ✨playing board games ✨saving gas and working from home when possible
✨to-go cocktails
✨waiting in the car for pediatrician appointments instead of miserably in a waiting room full of germs
✨rallying around local businesses ✨the absence of school shootings ✨growing vegetables and using local farms for produce, meat and dairy supply
✨parents spending more time with their children ✨people who used to ignore mental health issues and act like they weren’t real, valid, or important actually taking them seriously ✨appreciation for teachers and nurses

I know I’m missing some, and I’ll come back to it if I think of them. What do you all hope never changes when this is all over?

I'm getting to excited to reopen my business this weekend! Can't wait for sessions to start back up. In the meantime, we've been doing some foraging in our neighborhood and having so much fun making sweet treats. Here's the first part of two part series on how to make honeysuckle fresh squeezed lemonade!

The scent of spring Springtime in Virginia means the sweet, sweet smell of honeysuckle filling the air. Walking or biking around our neighborhood right now is the absolute best. One second we can s…
