What an incredible afternoon celebrating African American Music Month this past Saturday!
I had the absolute pleasure of photographing the City of Virginia Beach Cultural Affairs event, and it was a true masterclass in rhythm, storytelling, and community. It was also my first time shooting inside the Susan S. Goode Fine & Performing Arts Center at Virginia Wesleyan University—what a magnificent building! The space offered the perfect environment to capture the brilliant energy moving across the stage.

A massive shoutout to all the outstanding performers who brought this transatlantic musical journey to life:
Tidewater African Cultural Alliance (TACA) – The powerhouse headlining Dance & Drumming Ensemble absolutely mesmerized the crowd, carrying the spirit of the African Diaspora beautifully.
Mosaic Steel Orchestra – Igniting those vibrant, global summer vibes with their unforgettable steel pan rhythms.

DanzStar, LLC & the Boys Choir of Hampton Roads – Bringing immense talent, heart, and soul to the afternoon.

The event also featured an incredible world premiere by the brilliant Terrance Afer-Anderson, making it an exceptionally special milestone for our local arts community.

When arts, heritage, and local talent align in a beautiful space, magichappens. Proud to have been behind the lens to document it!

So incredibly proud of the beautiful community we’ve built together.

I dropped by to visit Krishna Loya at the stunning new Macon & Joan Brock House on the Judeo Christian Outreach Center (JCOC) campus right here in Virginia Beach, and seeing their vision come to life just filled my heart. The work they do is so vital, and I am beyond thrilled that our local markets are teaming up to support them for The 9th Annual Farmers Markets Giving Back!

If you know me, you know how much these markets mean to me—they are truly family. And this year, we have a massive goal: we want to collect at least 3,700 pounds of non-perishable food items. Honestly, if we hit 4,000 pounds, my heart might actually burst! 🥹

If you’ve got some extra cans in the pantry or can grab a few staples on your next grocery run, please come see us next week. It would mean the absolute world to me to see your smiling faces helping us hit this goal!

There are those people that you just feel a certain calm around, Tamara Vogrin Tara is one of those people. She has given us her gift of art that will last my eyes a lifetime. Tamera’s eye for beauty is just profound. When I look at her collection, every ounce of my being smiles. Thank you for that.

You will be missed here in Virginia Beach. Just know you’ve made a huge impression on our souls!

Thanks to my husband for purchasing a piece for our home. I am hoping for one more that really spoke to me!
