Saw a B&H ad asking about the greatest sports photo. So I submitted my all time best. Thought I’d share it here.
I shot this on Sunday April 16,1995 at the Nassau Coliseum. I was freelancing for the AP and regularly shot sports for them. Never the really big ones, but I got close a couple of times. The entire first period was flat, and I had nothing to send. So I decided to shoot ten minutes of the second period, and hope to make the deadline, which was two hours after the start.
Flat as well, so I gave up and decided to send the best of the crap. But when I got to the players gate I turned for one last look, just as Chris Luongo and Adam Graves faced off. I got off two frames ( Fuji 1600 pushed +1 ), and knew I had a pretty good shot. I have never seen it replicated.

I even found what looks like the AP’s file copy for sale on EBay! How cool is that, 30 years later!

Lived here for several years before I found this pool under the facade of the convention center. Pays to keep exploring your surroundings.

Another from this beautiful classic Chevy Nova. I love these old car interiors with the cool colors. For the younger folks, that circular crank at the top was used to open and close the window. And yes, that's an ash tray in the arm rest. We didn't have tablet or phones, so when we got restless our parents gave us ci******es!

Tried to write something witty and poetic about this flower blooming in the morning. But haven't had enough coffee yet to make it work.

Starting the week off with a tranquil image of a Water Lily beginning to bloom on a sunny morning in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Close to the beachfront, off a quiet street, the city has a small Water-Lily pond at it's convention center. It's a lovely little spot which I think most people pass without ever noticing.

Thought I'd share a peaceful image this morning of a Water Lily from the pond at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. One of the things I like about living here, is how the city does maintain little touches of nature everywhere.

There's just something about the design of classic cars...

It's always nice to find a nice little surprise when out on a photo walk with my students. This classic beauty was waiting for me parked across the street from my class at Tidewater Community College in Downtown Norfolk, Virginia.

Nice to have so many photogenic subjects within a short bike ride of home.

Just a short jaunt chasing the light this morning. There are many little surprises all around if we just take a moment to look.

It took several drive-byes, over the last few years, both on bike and car, at different times of the day before I finally figured out this image.

I've been intrigued by this magnificent statue at the Tidewaters Memorial Veterans in Virginia Beach since I moved here. It took me a very long time to find the right angle and time of day, to capture the cool, calming effect of the repeating lines. Today I finally figured it out!
