I’ve spent my whole life around the track. Back in high school, it was quads. Later on, life took me down the path of law enforcement, after that, racing was just a luxury I couldn’t afford.

For years, stepping behind the camera was my way to bridge that gap—a way to get as close to the action as possible and show the world how I see this sport. I’m usually capturing cars that are way faster than a go-kart, but the truth is, I’ve always dreamed of being the one behind the wheel.

A few days ago, I finally got my turn.

It was a small track, but having my wife, my kids, and my dad there to see it made it feel like the biggest stage in the world. I rolled off the track finishing 10th out of 15, but for my first time ever in a kart? I felt fast. It was an incredible day, and I’m still smiling.

There’s nothing quite like the racing community when it comes to honoring one of our own.

The first-ever Mattix Salmon Memorial at Delta Speedway brought out an incredible crowd of drivers and fans for two days of hard racing and remembrance. The energy at the track was a true testament to Mattix’s impact on the sport.
An unforgettable inaugural event, and hopefully the first of many to come.
