Broadway in Nashville is an absolute country and rock cover band MACHINE. Trolley loads of "woo girls" cosplaying as cowgirls fill these places and throw out-of-state money at drinks and music. I've never heard "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Wagon Wheel" so many times in my life. There's a range from what you may consider a h***y tonk or dive bar all the way up to celebrity- owned mega bars with bands on multiple floors.

Most song requests are just a $20 Venmo away (almost every band had their QR code displayed on a big monitor), but "Free Bird" and "Devil Went Down to Georgia" are $100 songs. I was witness to people gladly paying it (or pooling with others) and getting their fiddle fix.

Sometimes one place would have varying degrees of production, ranging from sharing a stage with another artist and alternating songs to having your full band headline in a bigger room with a bigger sound and lighting system.

A bar without a top notch lighting and sound system and a high end house drum kit seemed downright slummy. Crew ran around with the touch mixer iPads constantly tweaking things. The smallest bands in dive bars came with IEM's and a well-oiled machine of a set list.

Every band seem to have encyclopedic songbook knowledge and setup and takedown efficiency I haven't seen matched anyplace else.

Going a little off Broadway into Printers Alley and other outskirts to see top notch blue and jazz was more fun for me, but that's my taste. There were plenty of other genres if you did just a little digging.

We got spoiled quickly. Any bar or restaurant lacking live music just seemed so pedestrian after a while. San Diego take some notes!
