🚨🌪️ TORNADO WARNING ISSUED FOR NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTA 🌪️🚨

TAKE COVER NOW if you are in the warned area!

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning until 5:15 PM CDT for portions of:

📍 Northeastern Marshall County
📍 South Central Roseau County
📍 Northwestern Beltrami County
📍 Southwestern Lake of the Woods County

At 4:32 PM, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Skime (about 26 miles south of Roseau) and is moving southeast at 30 mph.

⚠️ Hazards:
🌪️ Radar-indicated tornado
🧊 Golf ball-size hail (up to 1.75 inches)

Communities in the path include:
• Skime
• Carmel
• Malcolm
• Casperson
• Fourtown
• Gates Corner
• Jelle

🚨 If you are in the warning area, do not wait.
Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Stay away from windows. If you are outdoors, in a vehicle, or in a mobile home, seek substantial shelter immediately.

🚨⛈️ SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING ISSUED ⛈️🚨

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 5:15 PM CDT for parts of northwestern and north-central Minnesota, including:

📍 Eastern Marshall County
📍 Southeastern Roseau County
📍 Northern Beltrami County
📍 Southern Lake of the Woods County

Communities impacted include:
• Baudette
• Upper Red Lake (northeastern)
• Grygla
• Williams
• Roosevelt
• Wannaska
• Strathcona

⚠️ Main threats:
💨 Wind gusts up to 60 mph
🧊 Quarter-size hail (1.00 inch)

The storms were located from near Gatzke to Faunce and are moving southeast at 35 mph.

🌪️ A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 11:00 PM for much of northern Minnesota, so continue to stay weather aware as storms strengthen through the evening.

🛑 If you’re in the warning area, move indoors immediately to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Stay away from windows until the storm passes.

If you thought Minnesota weather couldn’t get any crazier…think again. 😅

Here’s what we’re dealing with across the state:

🌪️ Tornado Watch until 11:00 PM for portions of northern Minnesota, where severe thunderstorms capable of tornadoes, damaging winds up to 80 mph, and hail up to 3.5 inches are possible this evening.

🥵 Extreme Heat Warnings are in effect across parts of central, west central, southwest, and south central Minnesota, where heat index values could reach 101-106° through Sunday.

🌡️ Extreme Heat Watches have been issued for parts of central and east-central Minnesota, including Benton, Morrison, Stearns, Todd, Sherburne, Mille Lacs, Kanabec, Isanti, Chisago, Douglas, and surrounding areas, where heat index values up to 102° are possible Sunday.

☀️ Heat Advisories are also in effect for parts of central and northern Minnesota, with heat index values approaching 100° in some locations.

🔥 Red Flag Warnings remain in effect across portions of western Minnesota due to critical fire weather conditions.

💧 Flood Watches continue for parts of northeastern Minnesota, where heavy rain could lead to localized flooding.

➡️ No matter where you are in Minnesota this weekend, there’s likely some type of weather alert in effect. Stay weather aware, stay hydrated, and have multiple ways to receive warnings if you’re in the severe weather threat area.

🌪️⚠️ MESOSCALE DISCUSSION UPDATE | TORNADO WATCH NOW IN EFFECT ⚠️🌪️

The Storm Prediction Center has issued Mesoscale Discussion #1722, highlighting an increasing severe weather threat across northeastern North Dakota into northern Minnesota.

🌪️ A Tornado Watch has now been issued and is in effect from 3:30 PM until 11:00 PM CDT for portions of northern Minnesota and eastern North Dakota.

Storms are expected to become surface-based over the next 1–2 hours as the atmosphere continues to destabilize. Conditions are becoming increasingly favorable for supercells, with all modes of severe weather possible this afternoon and evening.

Main threats include:
🌪️ A few tornadoes, especially across far northeast North Dakota into northern Minnesota near the boundary where the richest moisture is in place.
🧊 Very large hail, potentially 2 to 3.5 inches in diameter.
💨 Damaging wind gusts of 55–70+ mph, with isolated gusts up to 80 mph possible.

The greatest tornado potential will be focused where temperatures have climbed into the 80s and dew points remain in the 70s, creating a very unstable environment capable of producing rotating storms.

⚠️ If you are within the Tornado Watch area, stay weather aware this evening. Have multiple ways to receive warnings and be prepared to take shelter quickly if a Tornado Warning is issued.

🌪️⚠️ TORNADO WATCH ISSUED FOR NORTHERN MINNESOTA ⚠️🌪️

A Tornado Watch is now in effect for portions of northern Minnesota until 11:00 PM CDT this evening.

Main threats include:
🌪️ A couple of tornadoes are possible
💨 Damaging wind gusts up to 80 mph
🧊 Large hail up to 3.5 inches in diameter

Storms are expected to develop and rapidly strengthen through the late afternoon and evening. Some storms could become supercells, capable of producing very large hail, destructive winds, and a few tornadoes. As the evening goes on, storms may merge into a larger complex while continuing to produce damaging winds and large hail.

⚠️ Remember: A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms to develop. It does not mean a tornado is happening right now—but it does mean you should be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued.

If you live across northern Minnesota, now is the time to:
✔️ Review your severe weather plan.
✔️ Make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings.
✔️ Stay weather aware through the evening.

⚠️🌩️ MINNESOTA by SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK | FRIDAY, JULY 24 🌩️⚠️

Northern Minnesota is under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms later this afternoon and evening.

Here’s what we’re watching:
🌩️ Large to very large hail
💨 Damaging wind gusts
🌪️ An isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out, especially if storms remain isolated.

Storms are expected to develop late this afternoon across eastern North Dakota before moving into northwestern and northern Minnesota during the evening. If individual supercells can form before storms merge together, they’ll have the best chance of producing the most significant severe weather, including very large hail and a tornado risk.

As storms continue east into northern and parts of central Minnesota tonight, damaging winds may become the primary concern. Storms should gradually weaken later tonight.

📍 Greatest risk: Northwestern and northern Minnesota, with the severe threat spreading east through the evening.

We’ll continue to monitor radar trends throughout the day and provide updates if watches or warnings are issued. Stay weather-aware if you have outdoor plans this evening! ⛈️🌩️

🚨🌌 AURORA ALERT FOR MINNESOTA! 🌌🚨

There is another chance to see the Northern Lights across northern Minnesota Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning as minor (G1) geomagnetic storm conditions are expected. This activity is being driven by a high-speed solar wind stream flowing from a large coronal hole on the Sun.

✨ Best viewing tips:
• Head away from city lights.
• Look toward the northern horizon.
• The best chance will be late tonight into the overnight hours if skies cooperate.
• Even if the aurora is faint to the naked eye, your phone camera may capture more color!

As always with auroras, nothing is guaranteed. Solar wind conditions can change quickly, but this is definitely worth keeping an eye on if you have clear skies! 🌌📸
