They say the universe gives you the friends you need, not the ones you expect.

Some connections are captured in a frame, but the best ones are captured in the heart.

We met at a photography workshop in Italy, but it was in Venice—among the bridges, boats, and golden reflections—that we really became friends.

There's something about Venice that strips you bare. Maybe it's the water reflecting every emotion, or the labyrinth of streets that forces you to get lost together, two creatives trying to find our light.

But we truly found each other in Venice. Walking those ancient passageways, we talked about everything: our fears, our dreams, why we pick up cameras in the first place, and what we're really searching for. By the time we said goodbye, I knew I had found a friend for life.

Real connection isn't built on perfection—it's built on honesty. Vulnerability isn't weakness; it's the trust fall that says, 'I know you'll catch me.' So next time you're struggling, skip the 'I'm fine' and send a voice note that tells the truth. That one brave moment doesn't just deepen your bond—it gives your friend permission to be human too. The strongest friendships aren't unbreakable; they're the ones brave enough to heal together.

Lisa, based out of Sacramento, is one of those rare people who inspires you just by existing. She's a beautiful soul with a little bit of fire in her heart and spice in her words. I'm so lucky to have wandered those Venetian streets with her and even luckier to still call her a friend today.

Here's to art, adventure, and the people who make life feel like a masterpiece. Love you, girl!

Some people are scrolling right now, wishing they had just one more photo with their loved one. Just one more hug. One more “I love you.”

Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment. Don’t assume there’s always next year. Call her. Hug her. Take the silly, blurry, real-life photo. Because one day, that photo will mean everything.

If you’re lucky enough to still have your mom or a mother figure in your life—celebrate her loudly everyday. And if you can’t be together in person, let your phone call, voicemail, or old photo say what your heart feels.

And to those who are missing their mom, honor her by living your life the way she’d want you to: fully, bravely, and with love.

Go take the photo. Send the message. Love out loud while you can.

50 is her power year, she’s just getting loud!

Turning 50 is the moment a woman finally picks up her own brush and creates fine art from a life already lived.

For years, she was the medium—shaped, stretched, and framed by the world around her. But fifty is the gallery opening no one saw coming. Every scar becomes texture. Every loss becomes shadow. Every quiet victory becomes a bold stroke of light.

You are not her canvas anymore. She is her own masterpiece in progress—raw, refined, and unapologetically real.

This is the work she was born to make. Half a century in the making. And the most powerful piece is just beginning. She’s earned every brushstroke and is just getting started!

Happy Birthday Baby Girl!

Her backdrop? Versailles. Her superpower? Transformation from within.

We photographed this incredible human outside the Palace of Versailles — centuries of history behind her, but the real story? It was happening inside her.

Standing there, with all that grandeur in the frame, she wasn't overshadowed. She was revealed.

That's the power of photos.
Not just to capture where someone is — but to show them who they're becoming.

In front of one of the most iconic palaces in the world, she didn't need crowns or gold leaf. She brought something Versailles can't buy:
- Self-belief
- Inner strength
- A quiet, radiant transformation

Her outside finally matched her inside.

This is why I love what I do. Not for the locations (even ones this epic). But for the moment a client looks at their photo and says, "That's really me. The real me."

I had Mayeluz Devour My Lens

There’s a saying in our industry: Those who can, do. Those who really understand, sit on the other side of the camera.

A few weeks ago, I was in St. Louis, and I finally met up with Mayeluz—the visionary behind SoulFoul Portraits By Mayeluz. And let me tell you, she didn’t just show up for the shoot. She DEVOURED it.

From the first click, it was clear: this woman doesn’t direct—she summons. Every pose, every glance, every raw pause between frames felt intentional and electric. Mayeluz didn’t just model; she embodied the energy she captures for her own clients. It was a masterclass in presence.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth:

Most photographers hide behind the lens. We use the camera as a shield, a control panel, a way to stay safely in the observer seat. We tell clients to “be vulnerable,” “trust the process,” and “just relax”—yet we’ve rarely felt the vulnerability of being on the other side.

That’s why I booked this session. I called it market research. But really, it was a mirror.

If you want to understand what it feels like to wait for the proof gallery, to wonder if you looked awkward, to hope the light hit your “good side”—you have to walk the talk. You have to sit in the chair. You have to feel how exposed a client feels when the room goes quiet and all they hear is the shutter.

And after being devoured by Mayeluz in St. Louis, I am a better photographer. Not because I learned a new lighting trick—but because I remembered what it costs to be seen.

So here’s my challenge to every creative reading this:

Stop hiding behind your gear. Book a session with someone whose work terrifies or inspires you. Let them point the lens at you. Call it research. Call it growth. Call it humility.

But don’t ask your clients to bare their souls if you’re not brave enough to bare yours first.

And while we're at it — I don't want to hear you say "but I'm not photogenic." You just haven't met YOUR photographer yet.

If you're in the Charlotte,NC area, hit up Soulful Portraits by Mayeluz!

The universe looked at my plan and said, "Oh, honey. Hold my beer."

You plan the light. You scout the location. You pack the backup gear, the mood boards, the shot list down to the last blink.

And then life laughs. Gently.

I walked into this shoot with a very clear vision. I knew exactly how I wanted to feel. Exactly how I wanted the images to land. Exact.

We waited an hour and a half for a model who was supposed to be the heartbeat of the shoot. The scene wasn't what I had envisioned—not even close. And then we realized we didn't have enough wardrobe.

I could feel the frustration creeping in. To blame the circumstances, but instead, I pivoted.

And what came out of that chaotic, messy, *nothing-going-right* afternoon?

A better story. Deeper memories. And tears of joy—from me, from the team, from everyone who showed up even when the plan fell apart.

LIFE LESSON: Sometimes we envision something and have to pivot. Life is just like that. And at the end, we are better for it.

That session didn't give me the photos I "thought" I wanted. It gave me the ones I actually needed. The ones that felt real instead of rehearsed. The ones that reminded me: control is an illusion. Surrender is a superpower.

As photographers, creatives, entrepreneurs, humans — we cling to the plan like it's a lifeline. But the magic almost never lives inside the original blueprint. It lives in the pivot. The re-route. The moment you stop asking "why isn't this working?" and start asking "what's trying to happen here?"

So if you're in a season where your vision is cracking at the edges — good. Let it. Pivot. Trust the detour. Because on the other side of that uncomfortable turn isn't failure.
It's the shot you never saw coming. And sometimes, it's the tears you didn't know you needed to cry.
