I started going to church again around the time my nephew was born. I’ve always been raised to go to church but it wasn’t always a priority for me. As I’ve gotten older it has become something I look forward to taking part in.

Then one day, all of a sudden our world turned upside down because of a pandemic. As part of our world shutting down we also had to close the doors in all our churches. I could no longer attend one of the things I looked forward to every week. However there was a contingency plan. Virtual services- and my parish has them!

I am beyond grateful that my parish offers live online mass. Although it’s different from attending it in the church it’s still something that I look forward to every week. I also learned that yesterday was the Pentecostal and was also the birthday of the church. So Happy Birthday to all the churches!

Aside from that now more than ever I feel like we have to come together either in a form of worship or just community. Our prayers are needed now with all the violence and chaos going on in our world today. I pray every night and hope that some of my prayers can reach those who are in need of them most. That despite the hundreds of years of history repeating itself, I hope things will soon change. I don’t understand how we are still in the same place we were 100 years ago. I’m ashamed to be a part of a world that is full of such hatred and inequality. If I could be granted one wish for anything it wouldn’t be for more money, or a house or a different job. It would be to stop all of the injustice and strive for a peaceful coexistence.

I’m sorry to anyone who ever had to go through this or face this cruelty living in this world.

The priest yesterday talked about forgiveness and having the holy spirit with you. Although I can’t fathom how difficult forgiveness is at this point, I can understand where he’s coming from. At the end of the homily’s he finishes with a quote and I thought this quote was fitting for today’s message.
