He cleared the field, waited three hours, then bragged about the crowd that trickled back...
Trump's "Salute to America 250" got hit by storms so severe that National Guard troops moved everyone off the National Mall and into museums and Metro stations for shelter. Three hours later, a fraction filtered back in for a speech that didn't start until 11 PM.
Then came the numbers. He told the crowd 375,000 had been there before the evacuation and 150,000 came back — "the craziest thing anyone's ever seen," he said. Look at the seats and ask whether that math survives contact with reality.
This is the same man who called an earlier State Fair crowd "packed to the brim" at 45,000, a figure NBC reported was nowhere close. His own White House spent the week bracing for an embarrassing turnout and privately fuming about who scheduled a headline speech for the middle of the night.
The crowd size isn't the scandal. The compulsion to lie about something this easy to photograph is.
Who else is tired of being told not to believe their own eyes?
