D + C have a love story that has existed through lifetimes. This past weekend at Ruth Bancroft Garden they made it official for this lifetime.

The whimsical day was filled with personal details, the most caring and supportive guests and even unexpected things that turned out even better than what we had hoped for.

Though their dog Bella could no longer physically be present, she was represented in all the details through the day.

The garden had a plant in bloom for the first time since the 70s on their wedding day!

The ceremony took place by the pond with lovely floral pillars.

I walk into a session with a knowing we are there at that exact moment in time for a reason beyond just the classic photos.

Something will happen that we may even overlook and pass off as “just how life is lately” that will feel so different to us someday.

I don’t remember the last time I picked up my oldest son who just turned 14 years old today or the last time he squeezed just my finger or asked me to be “uppie”. It was all so frequent and so regular for a season of time. I can’t remember much from live before our second son came to complete the family anymore.

Now our life looks different and the regular things of today (that very specific height he is when he hugs me just barely taller than me so I fit into him more than he does into me for the first time this year.) won’t be the regular thing of later on.

When it is a wedding day, it’s more obvious this is not an ordinary day.

I love every chapter as they are all still being written. I would love to document yours at any stage. Link in bio to book family, maternity, newborn and a weddings.

Slowly revisiting Rome and summer via photos.

Yes the architecture is grand.

The small details bring me right back to the scents and sounds of the days spent so differently than life at home.

But my favorites are the ones where my family makes their way into the frame. That moment in time. Sweaty, gelato fueled, imperfect, but part of the story.

You never know what moment will mean something later on.

We opened doorways they forgot they had in their own home.

Stood in places in the yard not traditionally meant for walking.

The sweet baby woke up in not so sweet of a mood, and we stopped to snack instead of shoot for a bit.

There is what we plan for ahead time, but we don’t force it, we allow what is there to unfold.

What more can we learn?

This sweet little guy has been part of their everyday life for years, so when they learned their time with him might be getting shorter, we photographed exactly that: their life together, at home.

Lounging on beds. Playing cards around the dining table. Snuggles on the couch. Following the girls from room to room. Mom + Dad stealing a kiss in the kitchen. Nothing overly planned, just the tiny pieces of ordinary life that eventually become the things we want most to remember.

This is one of my favorite things about in-home family photography. Your home doesn’t need to be perfect and your family doesn’t need to perform. The things that are already yours are what make the photographs meaningful.

As a Bay Area family photographer, I photograph families throughout Walnut Creek, the East Bay and Northern California with a mix of documentary storytelling, editorial portraits, digital + film.

And yes, your dogs are always, always invited.

Why do I like mixing analog film with digital photography for weddings and family sessions?

It’s another layer of depth.

They aren’t trying to replace or replicate each other.

In a world where humans are creating less on their own, I think our sensitivities to human-made things and processes will in crease and resonate more… this is one place where the energy comes through.

Big thank you to for processing all the above film images for my professional wedding and family work and wild personal work.

You better believe my grandma is somewhere smiling knowing her cameras are still getting dragged around on adventures with me.
