San Francisco City Hall is one of my favorite places to photograph elopements and weddings. There are so many stunning areas to explore, and I love taking my clients to all of the most beautiful spots!

The Second Floor Hallway
This hallway is located on the ceremony level, but it runs well past the rotunda. Long marble hallways stretch out on either side, lined with arched openings, wooden doors, and tall windows at each end. It’s quieter than the center of City Hall, and open all day.
The Grand Staircase
This breathtaking staircase connects the first floor to the second. Wide marble steps split at the landing before rising into the rotunda, with all of it sitting under the dome. Photos on these stairs always look like they’re straight out of a fairytale.
The Fourth Floor Gallery
The open corridors that ring the rotunda on the top public floor are one of my favorite spots to shoot. Tall arched windows on the north and south ends bring in the most natural light in the building, making it a perfect place for portraits.
Second Floor Overlook
Who doesn’t love an adorable balcony shot?!
Third Floor Windows
These windows are another one of my favorite spots to shoot portraits. Depending on the time of day, you’re really able to play with light and shadow for some absolutely gorgeous photos.
The Doors
The iconic City Hall doors are a must! These doors are found at the main entrance on Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place. They feature bronze and glass set into stone, with gold detail on the ironwork and the dome rising behind them.
The Elevator
Nothing says romance like an old-school elevator shot. This elevator is original to the 1915 building: it’s small, made of brass, and slower than you might expect, tucked off the main corridors on either side of the rotunda.
