Fyrir um 25 árum síðan uppgötvuðu ungir íslenskir brimbrettakappar einstakan stað í einstökum bæ, óafvitandi hversu mikil áhrif þessi fundur mundi hafa á þeirra líf og margra annarra. Eftir því sem tímanum leið kom betur í ljós að um er að ræða eina af best öldu í allri Evrópu og þá langbestu og virkustu á Íslandi, sem kallast Aðalbrotið. Við höfum fengið að njóta þess að koma til Þorlákshafnar sem gestir og hefur ávallt verið tekið vel á móti okkur.

Þessi alda er einstakt náttúruundur! 🌊

Við vonumst til þess að í sameiningu finnist lausn og leið þar sem aldan varðveitist þrátt fyrir mikilvæga stækkun hafnarinnar. Endilega styðjið við málstaðinn með því að skrifa undir undirskriftarlistann hér að neðan.

About 25 years ago, young Icelandic surfers discovered a unique place in a unique town, unaware of how much this encounter would affect their lives and the lives of many others. As time went on, it became clearer that this is one of the best waves in all of Europe and by far the best and most active in Iceland. We have enjoyed coming to Þorlákshöfn as guests and we have always been well received. This wave is a unique natural wonder! We hope that together we will find a solution and a way in which the wave will be preserved despite the important expansion of the harbor. Please support the cause by signing the petition here below.

Pre-lockdown peelers.

Steve from The Empire - Film Productions came to make a board with us back in 2018 and then took it back home to northern Iceland. He lives right next to a beautiful right hand point break and when the surf is small and fun, he takes his Pieces of Eight out.

Whilst a large portion of the worlds surfers are keeping safe and staying on terra firma at the moment, Steve is still enjoying some waves.

Whilst we are staying out of the water so as not to potentially overburden any rescue and healthcare workers, that’s not really an option for Steve. Each time he paddles out, he knows that if he gets into trouble, he’s on his own. He’s either going to be able to swim and scramble his way back to land, or quietly drift out to sea...a sobering thought that not many surfers have to deal with.

At Diamond beach, icebergs from glacier which have been pushed out to sea are thrown onto the beach by the crashing waves. Each visit is unique due to changes in the quantity, size and stages of melt the various chunks of ice littering the beach can be found in. In this setting, we catch a glimpse of nature imitating itself: finding waves in the ice.

Only the brave call arctic waves a playground. The many things that need to line up for a good session, such as weather, low light, swell and wind direction in the ever changing weather conditions makes it all the better when everything lines up for an epic surf session at sunset.

The polar regions are unique in many ways, from the natural scenery of its landscapes to the native flora and fauna. So much so, they have been of great fascination to the public, as one of the last great, unexplored wilderness, and to the scientific community as an important indicator of global climate and a hub for studying organisms living in extreme conditions.
