When I was diagnosed with my alopecia at 9 years old, I listened to the doctors. I tried the shampoos, the steroid creams, tried steroid shots, tried to stress less, tried not to think about my hair falling out. What I didn’t try was facing my alopecia with an open mind. I wasn’t offered the thought that maybe embracing my hair loss is exactly what’s going to set me free 🌱
Healing doesn’t always look like growing your hair back. Maybe healing looks like letting go of the idea that my worth is tied to what grows on my head. If I could go back and tell my younger self one thing, it would be that she is whole exactly as she is. I would help her see that we don’t need to be “fixed” before we could fully live 🦋
