Who's ready for summer vibes after all this rain??

I love using creative light play for studio maternity sessions to create more conceptual images.

Sometimes it's artificial light.
Here, it was the natural light streaming into the space that caught my eye.

I added the plant for more visual interest and to give it a tropical vibe that further enhanced the story of her summer pregnancy.

There’s no place like home. Especially a brand new one.

I've been going back through these special images created for right after her family moved from their home in Virginia to Pennsylvania.

Part lifestyle family session, part brand session—
100% a reflection of the many roles women hold.

We spent a slow afternoon in their new space, soaking in the best parts of home and family.
And it was a good reminder…

The best location isn’t the instagrammable field.
Or the top google hit for “best family photo spots.”
It’s not even the location with the “perfect” light.

It’s the space that makes sense for telling your story right now.
Sometimes that’s at the studio. Sometimes it’s five steps from your bed.

The good news is you don’t have to figure any of that out before taking the first step.

Soft spring vibes in studio with Omni Creative Filters.

These used to be delegated strictly to my location shooting bag. But I’ve recently found myself pulling them out more and more for indoor studio sessions. When I saw the set design for this shoot, I knew the filters would bring the soft, ethereal vibe I wanted to capture.

Here for the women building beautiful things - from babies to brands.

I often hear “You photograph babies at your Loudoun-based studio, right?

Yeah…I do.

But also women, founders, makers, businesses and brands. (You’ll even catch a few men in there too because they definitely don’t get enough love or credit for bravely getting in front of the camera.)

Turns out I’m just really into photographing interesting people.

The kind of people who have stories, and not always the ones you see at first glance.

Because a really great portrait doesn’t capture the best version of you.
It captures what it feels like to be you.

It’s in the conversations exchanged between shots.
The untold stories I’m sometimes the only one privy to during an intimate photoshoot.

I’ve been told by clients that working with me feels like hanging with a good friend.
We laugh.
Talk.
Sometimes, we’ll even cry together a bit over shared experiences.
It’s all part of the process.
Just as much (and arguable more so) than camera settings and lighting.

Tap tap.….is this thing still on?

Well, it has been a minute. Life has been full and busy.

(And if you weren’t aware, I’ve been building something special for the Loudoun creative community over at Studio at 428 …if you're a photographer, make sure to go check it out)

But I’m still here. Creating art and doing what I love most — connecting with people and storytelling from behind the lens.

So I thought I’d catch you up a little bit on what I’ve been up to.

I swear I’ve been shooting. A lot, actually. This season of my career has me rediscovering my love for the camera, light, and, most of all, connection.

I keep coming back to the images that may not be the most obvious or “perfect,” but the ones that make me feel something.

The images that quietly whisper “it won’t be like this forever, but you will want to hold on to this moment always.”

If you’re having family photos taken this fall, consider the images that won’t stop the scroll, but will stop your heart in the years to come.

Rediscovering what creativity means.

I’ve been a professional, full time photographer for 16 years.

My camera is an extension of my body.
My edits are finely tuned like a musical instrument.
My processes are refined like a well oiled machine.

And yet… something still tugs at me.

Because when your art becomes your business, the line between passion and productivity begins to blur.

So this year, I gave myself permission to play.

To shoot for fun.
To be inspired by the person, not the process.
To try—and to fail.
To create pure art. And yes, also make some really bad images too.

To go back to the beginning—when I was just a girl with a camera and a whole lot of curiosity. When failure wasn’t a fear, because there was nowhere to fall from.

Thank you for giving me your trust and allowing me the opportunity to simply PLAY.

No one tells you that parenting will split you wide open in the best and scariest ways.

That one moment, you’re overwhelmed by joy so fierce it makes your chest ache—and the next, you’re holding your breath because the weight of loving someone this much is terrifying.

They don’t mention how you’ll find yourself watching them sleep, smiling at their steady breath and expanding belly… and also mentally running through every possible danger the world could throw their way.

This is the truth of parenting: It’s both beautiful and brutal. Soft and strong. Joyful and gut-wrenching.
 You’d do anything for this little person—because they are your heart, walking outside your body.
