built a little Lightroom catalog optimizer and analysis app that gives you these cool little social media ready insights! just ran it on my 2026 catalogue so far and it’s cool to see some of the insights. i’m working on making a multiple-catalogue analysis feature, and I’m curious if I can get it to run across 15 years of Lightroom catalogs or on my massive epic archive catalogue that has about 3 million photos in it 👀

this round i’m playing with different thresholds for the hazy glow that wraps around your subject’s highlights in HDR photos. it’s basically selective negative clarity, which i know a lot of photographers hate. but applying it only around the edges of the highlights gives things a more filmic, organic glow in my opinion.

still dialing it in. the big tradeoff with haze like this is non-HDR screens. the files can look weirdly blown out and oversaturated, so part of this test is just seeing for myself whether that’s actually a problem or not. if you’re reading this on an SDR screen, you’re the control group.

shot these around the tidal basin, which is basically a test of whether you can make a place everyone has photographed look like nobody has. the light did most of the heavy lifting. i just stood in the right spot and didn’t ruin it ☀️
