The stars at night are big and bright. I had a great time working with on producing magazine’s latest feature on Texas Dark Skies – highlighting one of the darkest places on the planet. The piece showcases the Davis Mountain Preserve; scientists who work in the dark; and the latest land purchase that preserves important wildlife habitat that also adds to the largest dark sky preserve.

Producing an assignment usually has some hurdles, but the team made planning a breeze — big shout out to Claire Everett for all of her help. Another huge shout out to for her writing and for being an overall champion for everything Texas.

Be sure to check out our online piece as well as a piece on the Cool Green Science Blog. To subscribe to the magazine — all you have to do is become a member. Visit nature.org to learn more.

I’ve spent the past few weeks sitting at my desk reviewing images for the 2022 Global Photo Contest. Honestly, it’s been overwhelming! There are so many incredible photographers out there—It’s going to be hard to find a winner! The deadline to enter is Aug 31. Follow the link in my bio to enter or head to nature.org/photocontest

Meet Rue—one of the best employees at ! She was part of the ‘’Blue Collar Cat” program that places cats that aren’t fit for households in situations where they can work and live. Rue was placed at Greenstreet Gardens and was tasked with keeping the mice away—which she does! I had the privilege last week to follow Rue around for magazine. The first hour she slept (on her chair/throne in the gift shop) but the second and third hour she was hard at work!

In my family it’s a tradition for the groom to push the bride down the Main Street of town in a wheelbarrow. However, we were in another town today so Katlyn and Clay improvised by going through the crowd of friends and family. Congratulations Clay and Kate! Cheers to many happy years together!

I'm not sure why Brooklyn had so many people with balloons...but there I was walking along and a pop of color caught my eye. Coincidentally, I was carrying around a M that I just checked out from the booth at . I haven't photographed with a rangefinder in years but somehow I got it together to grab this frame. Thanks

"In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." -John Muir // Celebrating and appreciating the world around me. My career in photography began in nature. This photo of a Mute Swan and cygnets comes from Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio—the place that inspired me to become a photographer.
