That split-second wrap of rope around the saddle horn — fast, tight, exactly right. One of the defining skills of the working cowboy, captured in the instant it happens.

There is nothing quite like being looked through by a leopard.

This male was stretched across the sun-warmed grass of Tanzania’s Serengeti when he slowly turned and locked his gaze on something just beyond my lens. In that moment, the entire bush went silent.

Leopards are the most elusive of Africa’s Big Five — solitary, largely nocturnal, and masterful at disappearing. To have one hold still and stare like this is extraordinarily rare.

Is he watching prey moving through the brush? A rival entering his territory? Or something only a predator’s senses can detect?

That tension — that question — is exactly what fine art wildlife photography is meant to capture. Not just an animal, but a moment.
