I have a possibly unpopular opinion as a wedding photographer:

Your wedding should not revolve around your wedding photos.
😬😂

Don't get me wrong. I care A LOT about your photographs. I want the light to be beautiful. I want your portraits to feel like you. I will fluff the dress, fix the weird hand, move you six inches to the left and absolutely make sure we get the grandma-fridge photo.

But then?

Go enjoy your wedding.

I don't want you disappearing from cocktail hour for an hour and a half because we need to create 75 versions of the same portrait.

I don't want you watching the clock all day wondering when we have to leave your people for another photo.

And I definitely don't want you to look back at your gallery and remember how much time you spent making the photos instead of living what was in them.

Because your wedding is one of the weird, wonderful days in life where almost every person you love is in the same place.

That's a big deal.

Talk to them.
Hug your grandparents.
Eat your food while it's hot.
Sneak away together for five minutes.
Get sweaty on the dance floor.
Be at your wedding.
I'll be paying attention while you are.
To your mom watching you from across the room. Your friends laughing behind you. The tears. The glances. The hugs. The people who absolutely should not have been given access to the microphone. 😂

And when we DO step away for portraits, you don't need to suddenly become models.

I'll take care of that part.

That's probably the simplest way I can explain how I photograph weddings:

Direction when you need it. Space when you don't.

Beautiful portraits + all the weird, emotional, hilarious, blink-and-you-missed-it stuff in between.
The grandma-fridge photos AND the ones Grandma probably doesn't need to see. 😉

If you’re new here, Hi 👋🏼 I’m Alex.

I’m an Iowa photographer, wife, mom of three girls (welcoming baby girl #4 in December 2026!), professional coffee drinker (for real we used to own a coffee shop & my husband roasts coffee) and the person behind all the photos you see around here!

I photograph weddings, families, motherhood + all the in-between seasons that somehow go way too fast.

And no matter what I’m photographing, I think my approach is pretty much the same:
I want you to look and feel like you.

I don’t need your kids to behave perfectly. I don’t need you to know what to do with your hands. And I definitely don’t want you to spend your entire wedding day wondering where you’re supposed to stand next.

I’ll give you direction when you need it. I’ll find the good light, fix the weird hand, wrangle everyone for the family photo and make sure we get what I lovingly refer to as the grandma-fridge photos. 😉 You know the ones. Everyone looking. Everyone smiling. Everyone looking GOOD.
We’ll get those too. But then I want to get back to your people being your people.

The silly faces your kids make. The stuffy that goes absolutely everywhere right now. Your mom tearing up when she thinks nobody is watching. The way your toddler reaches for you. Your grandparents dancing. The laughter. The quiet stuff. The things you probably wouldn’t think to put on a shot list.

That’s the stuff I really love.

Because I don’t think the best photographs necessarily come from making everything look perfect. I think they come from paying attention to what’s already there.

I want to give you photographs that someday make you say, “Oh my gosh. That was SO them.” or “I completely forgot that happened.” or maybe just, “Look how little they were.” 🥲

That’s what I’m here for.

I’m based in Iowa with a studio in Waverly, and I photograph families, motherhood + maternity, and weddings throughout Iowa (and occasionally beyond.)

So whether you’re planning a wedding, your baby suddenly doesn’t look like a baby anymore, or you realized the last decent picture you have of your whole family is from two years ago..

Your wedding doesn’t have to feel like an 8-hour photoshoot.

I want you on the dance floor. I want you sitting down to actually eat the dinner you picked out. I want you talking to your grandparents, hugging your friends and having the kind of day where you occasionally forget there’s a photographer there at all.

We’ll make time for the beautiful portraits, I like to call these “grandma fridge photos” 😉 but I don’t believe your entire wedding should revolve around making photographs.

A lot of my favorite images happen when nobody is thinking about the camera. The tears from the handwritten notes you left your guests, glances, dance moves, hugs. All the tiny things happening while you’re busy living up your day.

That’s what I want your wedding gallery to feel like: your wedding.
