‼️ AN IMPORTANT UPDATE TO HOW I’LL BE SHARING CHILDREN’S PHOTOS ‼️

As a photographer, one of the greatest privileges of this job is being trusted with people’s most important memories — especially their children.

And lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what that responsibility looks like in a world where AI is advancing faster than most of us ever imagined.

A recent federal court case involving hyper-realistic, AI-generated sexual images depicting children stopped me in my tracks.

The ruling itself is much more complicated than simply saying “AI-generated CSAM is legal,” and I encourage anyone interested to read the actual opinion rather than relying on headlines.

But what stayed with me most wasn’t just the legal decision.

It was the reminder of how quickly technology is changing — and how little control any of us have over an image once it is publicly placed online.

I photograph babies. Toddlers. Children. Teenagers. Families.

And those families trust me.

Once I publicly post an identifiable photo of a child, I cannot control every screenshot, download, share, website, AI program, or person who may eventually have access to it.

I also can’t predict what AI will be capable of five or ten years from now.

But I can control what I choose to put online through my business.

So, effective immediately:

🤍 I will no longer publicly share clearly identifiable photographs of children on my photography business pages.

I may still share images from family sessions, but they will be photographed or edited in ways that protect the child’s identity — such as images from behind, detail shots, wider perspectives, cropped images, or photos where their face is otherwise not clearly identifiable.

Clients will still receive their complete galleries exactly as they always have.

This only changes what I personally choose to make publicly accessible online.

I’m not telling parents what they should post.

I’m not telling other photographers how to run their businesses.

This is simply a boundary I feel called to put in place for mine.

Will it make marketing family photography harder? Maybe.

Could it affect engagement or bookings? Possibly.

But if I ever have to choose between social media performance and the privacy of a child who has been trusted to me, the child will win every single time.

I would rather be overly cautious now than look back years from today and wish I had been.

Our laws, technology, and understanding of digital privacy are going to continue evolving.

My responsibility to the families who trust me should evolve, too.

Their safety and privacy will always mean more to me than likes, shares, reach, or bookings.

Especially when it comes to children. 🤍

I’ll leave the court opinion that prompted this decision in the comments for anyone who would like to read it and form their own opinion.

This session held a little more weight than most. 🤍

For my first session back since surgery, I found myself photographing a season of life that now carries a whole different meaning for me.

But these two aren’t strangers to my camera. I’ve had the privilege of photographing them through different seasons of their story, and somewhere along the way, they became close friends too. So getting to document this chapter for them was incredibly special.

I’d be lying if I said there weren’t a lot of emotions behind the camera that night. This season of my own life has changed what motherhood, pregnancy, and all the “what could have been” moments feel like for me.

But standing there watching two people I love prepare for their little girl, I wasn’t overcome by sadness.

I was proud.

Proud that I picked my camera back up. Proud that I could celebrate their joy wholeheartedly while still carrying pieces of my own grief. And proud that after everything, I still get to do something I love so deeply — freeze the moments people will someday wish they could go back to.

Healing and grief can exist in the same place.

So can heartbreak and genuine happiness for someone you love.

And maybe that’s what made this session so beautiful.

Turns out, my heart was ready to tell stories again. 🤎

Okay… I have a little idea 👀🤍

I’ve been thinking about creating some Grace After Grit t-shirts — some with my photography logo, and others with the words and reminders that mean so much to this little corner of the world.

Think:
✨ faith
✨ resilience
✨ healing
✨ choosing to keep going
✨ finding grace after the grit

Before I start designing, I want to know…

Would you actually wear a Grace After Grit tee? 👕🤍

And if YES — what kind of designs or quotes would you want to see?

Drop a 🤍 if you’d wear one, and tell me what you’d want on it! 👇🏼

Hi friends! 🥰

Along with my rebrand, I’ve also simplified my pricing and what I’m offering.

✨ Story Sessions (Seniors) — $250 flat rate

✨ Elopements & Micro Weddings — Collections starting at $1,200

But there’s one offering that’s especially close to my heart…

🤍 Seasonal Grace Sessions

These are donation-based family, couples, and friends sessions offered as a gift and a ministry.

There will be a few dates during each season for these opportunities!

There isn’t a set price.

Instead, you simply give what you’re able and what you feel led to give.

My hope is that finances never become the reason someone doesn’t have memories with the people they love.

Whether you’re celebrating a new season, holding your family a little closer, or simply wanting to freeze this chapter before it changes, I’d be honored to tell your story.

Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me while I stepped away. Your kindness carried me more than you’ll ever know.

I’m officially accepting bookings beginning September 5th, and I truly cannot wait to create with you again.

With love,
xo, Katlyn

Hey everyone 🤍

I wanted to give a quick update on Katlyn since she’s taking some time away from Facebook to focus on healing.

She’s officially two weeks post-op. Recovery has had its ups and downs, and this season has been both physically and emotionally heavy—but she’s pushing through and taking things one day at a time.

She wanted me to say thank you from the bottom of her heart for the meals, check-ins, prayers, and support. It has truly meant so much to her and her family.

The meal train is still such a blessing during this time if anyone feels led to help.

Thank you all for continuing to love on her 🤍

Hi everyone 🤍 As many of you know, I have surgery coming up for the hysterectomy, and I’ll be taking time to slow down and heal afterward. This season has already been heavy, and stepping into recovery, I know I’ll need to lean on the people around me more than usual. A meal train has been cr...

I’m still here and trying to smile ❤️ I’m not ready to come back to social media just yet / but we’ve had a lot ask how surgery went.

Despite all of the scar tissue / they thankfully got everything they needed to out.

After a 3 1/2 hour surgery - I am in quite a bit of pain but I’m trying to rest and keep medicine in me the best I can.

Huge thank you to the friends and family who have been here and checked on us repeatedly - things like this definitely can open your eyes up to who’s truly here for you and who’s not. It wasn’t just a hysterectomy. I lost what I thought our future would have in it.

Gracia June Whorley set up a meal train for us that also had ways to help with gift cards and all too ❤️

If you feel inclined to share or donate while I’m down.

Thank you again to those who have reached out! I’ll be back soon 🥰
