For many families, Memorial Day is not history.

It is personal.

It is the photograph that never got another one taken beside it.
It is the folded flag.
It is the years spent waiting for answers.
It is the empty chair that quietly became part of the family.

My family’s story stretches from Pearl Harbor and Midway to Vietnam and the POW/MIA years. Because of that, this day has always meant something different to me.

Not “Happy Memorial Day.”

Just remembrance.

Today I am thinking about those who never made it home, and the families who carried that loss long after the headlines faded.
