Today I was invited to speak with the 6th graders at my daughter’s school about BIRDS! They have recently introduced a beautiful birding curriculum and I was honored to be able to share my experiences. One of my focuses was on the European Starling and their magnificent murmurations in the winter. I hope one day I’ll get to witness a murmuration with my own eyes.

Spotted this very beautiful Eastern Bluebird on a walk a couple days ago. They are still my favorite bird. Warblers are amazing but there’s just something about a bluebird that other birds don’t have.

Something very special happened in my yard a couple evenings ago. A Northern Parula visited one of our birdbaths. This may not seem like a big deal to most people. But for me, I realized my yard was a place of refuge for these birds. He felt safe and welcome. These birds are preparing for an amazing trek. I’m so glad that I can provide them a small sanctuary before they leave us for the winter.
