"Disney Tribute to Firefighter's"

This iconic print of Mickey and a Fireman was produced by Disney as a tribute to all firefighters for their heroic efforts during the California Southland Fires of 1993.

Disney called the Anaheim Fire Department requesting a firefighter to commission a sketch. The firefighter’s name is Dave Baker and he was a rookie at the time. He went to the Disney Studio and this print was produced in two weeks

Charles Boyer was the atrist. Charles joined the Disneyland art staff in 1960 as a Park artist drawing pastel portraits for guests.

He soon moved to the marketing and advertising art department as an illustrator and remained with Disneyland for 39 years.

Charles produced nearly 50 limited edition Disney lithographs, beginning with the famous Triple Self-Portrait of Walt Disney painting himself as Mickey Mouse in 1976.

There are three characteristics that make the Disney Tribute to Firefighters print unique that had never been done before by Disney:

1.) Mickey is always standing above everyone else or on a pedestal.

2.) Mickey is shaking hands with a person. Two other prints were done with Mickey touching another person, but not shaking hands.

3.) Mickey is looking up, he never is looking up in a print. He is either looking down or looking eye-level.

Changing these attributes as a tribute to the firefighters is just another example of the attention to every detail for which Disney is famous.

I’ve got mine! Who else has this tribute piece?

HIGH-ANGLE TECHNICAL RESCUE FROM WATER TOWER

At 9:23 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, City of Bradenton Fire Department (BFD) personnel responded to an injured person in the city water tower adjacent to BFD Station 3 on 59th Street West. The patient was reported to have fallen from scaffolding, approximately four feet, inside the tower where he was completing maintenance-related work.

With technical rescue training exercises nearby, personnel were able to respond quickly, finding the patient with an apparent leg injury. Given the patient’s location within the tower, a high-angle technical rescue operation was conducted, removing him in less than an hour. The patient, who was wearing appropriate safety equipment at the time of the incident, was transported by Manatee County EMS.

This was a successful undertaking conducted without issue by the professionals of the BFD. Our thanks to all BFD responders and to the agencies who provided assistance, including Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue, East Manatee Fire Rescue, North River Fire District, West Manatee Fire Rescue, and Manatee County EMS.
