Twenty years ago, Sugar Grove Fire Protection District welcomed its first full-time crew — and today, we celebrate them.
Built on a proud tradition of volunteer and paid-on-call service, this department took a significant step forward when these dedicated individuals committed themselves full-time to protecting our community. For 20 years, they have shown up — shift after shift, call after call — giving everything they have to the people of Sugar Grove.
Twenty years of sleepless nights and early mornings. Twenty years of running toward what others run from. Twenty years of being there for our community on its very worst days and helping make them better.
To our original full-time crew — you are the heartbeat of this department. The culture, the pride, and the standard you have set over these two decades is felt in everything we do. We are so honored to celebrate this milestone with you.
Here's to 20 years of full-time service. Thank you for answering the call — every single day.

It’s an honor to document their work and tell part of their story through my lens.

which is exactly where I’m most comfortable.

But every once in a while, someone catches me in the middle of doing what I love 📸

Fire yesterday morning in Warrenville.
One of the firefighters I photographed was working her very first fire as an engineer.

She was responsible for supplying water to 3 hose lines during the fire,
and you could tell how much the moment meant to her.

I also finally had the chance to photograph another firefighter who has followed my work for a long time and has supported just about every post I make. (thank you)

Always cool when those moments come full circle.

These are the parts of the job I really enjoy documenting.
Not just the fire itself, but the people behind it.
