I've been writing a series about fatherhood — what it actually costs, and what it's building. Over the last two weeks I turned five of the essays into short films. My voice, my life, cut from scratch at my kitchen table.
They're about the ledger you're funding in your kid whether you meant to or not. The apology you still owe. What a daughter learns watching how you treat her mother. The sentence you forgot by dinner that your kid carried for forty years. And what it's like to be doing all of this at my age.
