West Salem/Bangor Adapted Sports League vs BRF Adapted Sports League
First, I owe everyone a small apology. I’m a little behind on editing and uploading. I need to do better, and I will.
Second, I just want to say thank you.
To anyone who has supported ONE31 Media through a paid gig, a follow, a like, a comment, a share—or simply taken the time to look at my work—thank you.
I’m starting Year 3 photographing Adapted Sports, and lately I’ve been thinking about how strangely this whole thing started.
Back in the spring of 2024, I received an email from Coach Ashly introducing herself and the West Salem Adapted Sports League team.
She explained that the program had started in January 2022 to give individuals with disabilities the opportunity to participate in sports alongside the opportunities available to their typically developing peers.
But she wasn’t emailing me asking for photography.
She was asking if my little business would be willing to help sponsor their league fundraiser.
At the time, because of family health issues, I had to decline. And if I’m being frank, those family health issues haven't exactly gone away.
But that email stuck with me.
Eventually, I found my way back to ASL and started photographing the West Salem team—now West Salem/Bangor.
Skipping over a lot of personal details, that decision has affected me far more than I ever expected.
I went there thinking maybe photography was something I could contribute to.
Instead, these athletes, families, coaches and this league have given an incredible amount back to me—personally and professionally.
Recently, my page alone passed half a million views in 90 days. Even typing that seems ridiculous to me. I still have a hard time comprehending that number.
But if this platform is growing, then I want to use some of that reach for something worthwhile.
I want more people to see these athletes.
I want more people in the stands.
I want more people talking about Adapted Sports.
And I want to document as much of this journey as I possibly can.
So thank you, Ashly.
Thank you to the coaches, athletes, families and everyone involved with the Adapted Sports League.
And thank you to everyone who has supported ONE31 Media, because whether you realized it or not, you've helped give me a platform that I can now use to help push something I've grown to genuinely care about.
There are personal reasons behind this that I don't need to publicly explain.
Just know that I've become pretty damn hell-bent on doing whatever small part I can to push, document and advance Adapted Sports.
At this point, it's becoming something of a personal mission.
So thank you to everyone who has supported me so far—and everyone who might support me somewhere down the road.
God willing...
I'm just getting started.
