Giggling on dad's back, exploring the tall wavy grass, leading her parents along the paved path — Brooke wanted to capture Charlotte's joyful personality and the spirit of their young family.

I adored this session and witnessing these two let their little girl lead the way and enjoy the park together. Such a fun-loving family!

I've been having fun trying to write limericks lately after our old neighbor left a "goodbye" limerick in our mailbox. Here's one for this session

Back in August I hosted a giveaway to celebrate switching exclusively to film 🎞 and when Megan won she responded at first with pure excitement and then with sudden terror thinking she had ruined my giveaway because they were a newly married couple and not a family with kids 😆 after which I assured her did not matter provided they were willing to act like kids with me for an hour and as it turns out that was easier done than said 😎

I say this all the time and I'll say it again — my favorite part of this work is getting to know each and every one of you. I love chatting it up in between shots, hearing your stories, and getting to know your hearts and your minds and interests in life.

If only you could have seen how my jaw dropped when Megan casually mentioned she has a dark room in her basement for printing the 35mm film images she shoots 🫨 I knew I was in good company the moment I walked through the door but this moment did solidify it and of course there was a tour after the session.

I've digressed... all I'm saying is that asking questions, moving through things slowly, and learning about you is both fun for me, but also is part of how I learn to tell your story. And really, that's what this is all about.

Documenting bits of your story for you and your kids future selves, to look back on and feel that sense of sweet nostalgia.

I learned recently that nostalgia is intertwined with joy and inner peace and I think it's the best thing I learned all (last) year. I've gone on too long, so that'll be for next time.

Megan and Kevin — thank you for letting me into your world.

At the end of last year, while I was dreaming of starting a photography business, I told Brian that if even one family reached out to me for photos in 2024, I’d be over the moon. This year, 13 families trusted me to capture their memories—and that still feels unreal to me!

To those who modeled for me in the beginning, hired me, or cheered me on this year: thank you from the bottom of my heart 💛 Your support means everything.

More than half of these sessions haven’t been shared yet, so that’s at the top of my list for the new year. I’ve been quieter here lately—between a big house move, parenting littles, and making the holidays feel special, Instagram was easy to step back from. Honestly, the break has been so freeing.

Still, I wouldn’t have met many of you without this app, and I’m so thankful for the people it’s brought into my life. I’m excited to get back to sharing soon, with a healthier rhythm in place!

For now, here's 10 joyful moments from some of this year’s sessions

Happy New Year! 🎉❤️

Part III —— The magic moments

The moments that come out of your gallery that absolutely could never have been planned. the moments that exist solely because you exist and your kids are your kids and your life is happening at the pace and in the way that can only be true for your family.

These moments are the heart of every gallery. They’re the ones I gravitate to without hesitation. I call them magic moments because I think they’re the ones that will stop you in your tracks in 20 years. Flood you with the feeling of what once was. The joy of your littles, the chaos of life. Their tiny toes and hands, their love towards one another. Their boundless energy and their small size and their bubbling personalities on full display. Utter magic. The power of the in-between and the unexpected.

The ones that could never be planned but speak volumes of the footprint of your family life.

They unfold like a story and it’s my favorite one to write

Part II with the Boje Family

A giant yard with chickens & a blanket & bubbles & swings & a hammock & flowers and allllllllll the slow summer newborn & sibling memories forever kept.

I had a number of families reach out this summer with the same request — wanting to document the slow early newborn days. It amazed me at first how each one worded it almost exactly the same. But it makes so much sense, too. There is a shift that happens internally when you bring home a newborn — it slows you down so beautifully. Worries melt. You see what matters most in life, our connection to each other. It's so, so beautiful.

Every once in a while you come across a person so special that draws out the best in you, and you're a better human being after interacting with them. Well, that was true for every single member of the Boje family.

To be invited into their home was truly an honor. It was brimming with loving kindness. The kids instantly adopted me into their mix, showing me their skills on their light up scooters, while Erin finished blow-drying her hair with baby Lyla laying beside her on the bed, her calm presence bringing a peacefulness to the bustling all around. Kit enveloped our entire time in warm conversation getting to know me from the moment I walked through their door. I mean it when I say I left our time together as a better version of myself. Some people just do that to you.

And then came these shots. A brand new family of five, a big cozy chair, and a light-filled sunroom. But more notably — love & laughter, authentic personalities, and lots and lots of kisses for baby Lyla.

Part I with the Boje family — all on film, always

Mini sessions are a quick and affordable way to update your family photos each year. My style is candid and interactive and my focus is on capturing the genuine interactions and connections between you and your loved ones.

If you're after a bunch of perfectly posed shots with everyone looking & smiling, I might not be your photographer. I'll do my best to grab a few at the start, but especially with little ones, no promises! My goal is to keep the fun rolling, not force the smiles. If you're up for capturing sweet, playful moments and enjoying the experience, we'll be a great match!

Disclaimer: Mini sessions may not be ideal for every family. If your child needs time to warm up, a full session might be better. It gives us more time to relax, play, and help your child feel comfortable, leading to more natural and relaxed photos. Additionally, mini sessions are only available for immediate families.

My best advice for choosing a location for family photos that's meaningful to you?

Think of cherished moments with your family - the ones that bring about peace or laughter or joy, and where they happen. Here's some of our special spots: the creek, riding bikes to the gelato shop, wandering Anita B. Gorman, our home & backyard
