This is a closeup photo of the Falls during the same flight as the previous photo posted 2 days ago. For those familiar with the Falls you can see just how deep the water is from this vantage point.

Between taking the previous photo and doing this one I almost lost the drone.

It was a couple hundred feet away hovering over the river at 100' or so about 400' downstream from the Falls when it started to drift on its own toward the trees along the closest shore line and wouldn't respond to controls. I thought I was going to lose it in the trees and hoped it wouldn't then fall into the river or get bashed on the huge boulders that line the sides of the river in that area.

I wasn't recording at the time because I was doing photos so unfortunately I don't know exactly the path it took but I do know when I glanced at the controller screen at the point I lost visual of it I assumed it had crashed into the trees because it wasn't high enough to clear them but the controller showed it was still in flight and looked like it happened to drift into a small opening among the trees.

At that point I tried to get it to simply ascend immediately to avoid hitting any trees since it was still moving laterally on its own. It was finally responding and climbed above the trees and I was able to get it back.

Still don't know what caused the problem, especially considering it wasn't close to the water for the sensors to get confused and it had GPS lock the entire time. Needless to say I damn near had a heart attack.

The Tygart River Valley captured at Tygart Valley State Park, looking downstream, to the north. Although maybe hard to discern in this photo, the river is up very high because the Army Corps of Engineers are releasing water upstream from the Tygart Dam due to excess rainfall in late July.

I've been to Pittsburgh, PA to fly my Mavic 4 Pro but didn't have an opportunity to take photos and videos downtown until July. I wanted to do similar content of downtown to what I did back when I used my Mini 4 Pro to compare the quality and composition the Mavic 4 offers over the Mini line. Here is a sneak peak of a round of content coming up that showcases the capabilities of the Mavic 4 using Pittsburgh skyscrapers as subjects.
