Hello world! I hope everyone is recouping from fair last week and transitioning into new routines of school and life without as many animals. I took a little time to reflect on my 9 hour drive back from my daughter's college orientation yesterday on fair, on motherhood, on life in general. County fairs are stressful. Whether you are an exhibitor, a parent, a leader or yes dare I say it, a photographer. Photography in itself is not easy, but when you throw stressed out, hot, cranky people and animals into the mix it becomes down right chaotic. Please keep in mind that some photographers are not only at fair to take pictures, they are there to help their own children along with others, all why trying to stay hydrated, remember to eat and have a smile on their face most of the time. Photography, whether it is a family session or a livestock show, is so much more than just clicking a button on the camera. A lot of people do not realize the time, energy and money that goes into a session of any kind behind the scenes. There's countless hours on your feet, or contorting your body to get the perfect angle (you'll feel that the next day, trust me lol) Then there's uploading 100s and 100s of images, culling through them all to find the best ones. And lets face it, the one that we like as a photographer will more than likely be the exact opposite of the one our customers adore, so we keep way more good ones than you would probably imagine because we don't want to disappoint you. After we settle on those many, MANY, images that are keepers, we then have to edit each of them. And wouldn't you know it...we take pride in making sure each one is edited to our liking lol. After we've edited, then saved then went back in and edited yet again, we finally have to upload ALL of those images to our website, then make sure they are properly uploaded and then send out a gallery invite to you as the client. All of this madness is hard to get done in just a couple days and is straight up impossible to get done within hours of shooting whatever type of session. I guess what I'm trying to say is...go easy on your fair photographers. Most of us truly are working non stop to get you those images of your kiddos all the while stressing about how we are being perceived, how we are going to get all this done and not upset anyone, and also trying to stay hydrated 😉. We truly are trying our absolute best and I personally can say, I get a jolt of energy when someone says things like, "Oh my goodness your plate is full. I will be patient." Or "I don't know how you do it but man alive I appreciate you squeezing us in to pictures." So next time instead of assuming that pictures taken the same day will be ready to go that night, give your fair photographer a little grace and maybe offer her a water instead.
