We left Akureyri and cruised through the Eyjafjörður Fjord. There were so many waterfalls and beautiful sites. Our next stop was the beautiful Westfjords town of Ísafjörður. I'll be posting pics of an amazing waterfall.

We visited Lake Mývatn, outside of Akureyri, Iceland. The name translates to "Midge Lake," after those pesky little flies. Still wearing those crazy nets over our heads, I grabbed my wildlife lens and snapped a few pics of some waterfowl. The first two are Tufted Ducks. Then last one is a Horned Grebe, which I didn't realize until I zoomed in, had two little ones on her back! If I had known earlier, I would have tried to get some better shots.

Hverfjall is an explosion crater, just outside of Akureyri, Iceland. We hiked up this ancient volcano and got quite a nice view from the top. Lake Mývatn is off in the distance.

We made our way to the Hverir Geothermal Area, just outside of Akureyri, Iceland. This place was amazing! It is very dramatic landscape, with steam vents, and mud pools, and amazing colors. This place looked like a cross between Yellowstone and The Badlands. A small side note, we encountered one of Iceland's biggest nuisances, Midges. What's that you ask? They are non-biting flies, that live around wet areas in Iceland, and they will swarm you by the thousands! We had to purchase nets that we wore around our heads, just to keep them out of your eyes, ears, nose and mouth. They were severely annoying, but we were thankful for the nets, despite looking absolutely ridiculous. I also had to edit them out of many photos! lol

Goðafoss near Akureyri, Iceland. It was a blue sky day, and not only was I able to capture a rainbow, but a full rainbow! It was such a nice day.

Goðafoss, near Akureyri, Iceland. These beautiful falls are 39 feet tall, and fed by the glacial Skjálfandafljót River. (Don't ask me the pronunciation of that one!). These falls reminded me of Niagara Falls in NY/Canada, on a much smaller scale.

When we left Seyðisfjörður, we sailed northward and briefly passed north over the Arctic Circle! The next stop on our Iceland cruise, was the far northern city of Akureyri. We rented a car and went off on our own. The first site we wanted to see, were these beautiful waterfalls, Goðafoss. The name translates to "Waterfall of the Gods." These falls were amazing, and you could view them from either side, and from several angles. I'll be posting several of these photos this week.

The fjord at Seyðisfjörður, in eastern Iceland, was nothing less than majestic! Our time here was so enjoyable, we just literally hiked the waterfall and just walked around town, enjoying the crisp, clean air. I would go back here in a heartbeat if I had the chance.

I was determined to climb these falls to see the purple flowers. It was a very steep climb too! The end reward was worth it! The flower is called Nootka Lupine, and the waterfall is called Búðareyrarfoss, in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland.
