A lot can happen in a week. šŸ’™

We welcomed our sweet son, Jesse Irvin Powell, 17 days early on Friday, July 10. Thanks to Dr. Beebee and our amazing L&D nurse, McKayla, at Betty Cameron, he arrived safe and sound at 8:56 a.m., weighing 7 lbs. 7 oz. and measuring 21 inches long.

Peyton and Lucy are completely obsessed with their baby brother and currently start every morning arguing over whose turn it is to hold him. šŸ˜…

We are so incredibly grateful to Mom and Dad, the Hacklers, the Woolards, the Hupps, Craig, Mary, Melissa, Margaret, and the countless other family members and friends who stepped in without being asked. Your love, meals, help, and support made our first week home so special and created unforgettable memories for our girls.

To top it all off, Peyton started kindergarten yesterday. It’s such an overwhelmingly bittersweet season—watching your oldest baby walk into grade school while bringing your youngest baby home from the hospital.

And to Jess—thank you for being the best dad I could have ever imagined for our children. It feels so fitting that our son carries yours and your granddad’s name.

Sweet Jesse, thank you for completing our family. We’re so thankful you’re here, safe and finally in our arms. šŸ’™

I’ve known Devin since my husband, Jess and I first moved to Wilmington in 2017. We were connected through Jess since they went to state together and then she introduced to me to Wilmington women one brunch at a time and immediately made me feel right at home in a new place. All it takes is one person to make that effort and she was it and I will always be grateful to her for that.

Now, more than eight years later, it makes my heart so happy that it’s her turn. Jake is her home, and it’s so clear he makes her feel the same way she made me feel all those years ago— welcomed and loved.

Congratulations to these gorgeous lovebirds! I couldn’t be happier for you both and can’t wait to see what this next chapter holds. šŸ¤

When I arrived at the Oak Island Lighthouse, I had the place completely to myself for nearly 20 minutes. As I waited for a forthcoming proposal, a couple walked up from the beach, and I jokingly asked if they could be my ā€œfake familyā€ so I could do a few photos without drawing attention to what was about to happen because there was no where for me to hide discretely. They happily agreed.

Moments later, they asked if I was photographing a proposal near the beach where someone had arranged roses spelling out ā€œMarry Me.ā€ That’s when I realized something incredible was happening—there were going to be two proposals at the same time.

Just as Gabby and JT arrived, another couple appeared and began walking toward the same area. The future groom looked a little panicked, realizing he may have picked the same spot! I assured them they weren’t interrupting our ā€œfamily photos,ā€ and we all shared a quiet laugh.

Then the moment arrived.

Right there on the boardwalk in front of the lighthouse, JT asked the sweetest woman to spend forever with him. As if the proposal itself wasn’t thoughtful enough, he surprised her with a custom Bible featuring her future married name—a beautiful gift of both love and faith.

The magic didn’t stop there. My ā€œfake familyā€ happened to include a minister, who graciously offered to pray over the newly engaged couple. Five minutes later, the second couple got engaged on the beach, and we all applauded as they celebrated their own special moment.

I’ve photographed a lot of proposals, but this one was truly unforgettable—so much joy, faith, love, and perfect timing all in one place.

Congratulations, Gabby + JT! ā¤ļø
