There is just SOMETHING about those first 48 hours. 🤍

The tiny hospital bracelets. The little feet. The bassinet beside your bed. The way your older babies suddenly look SO big when they’re meeting the newest little love of your life. 😭

It’s the beginning of a whole new chapter, and somehow, in the middle of the exhaustion, excitement, and all those newborn snuggles, these moments pass in the blink of an eye.

After spending years as a Labor & Delivery nurse, I know firsthand just how much happens in those first hours. And now, getting to step back into those hospital rooms with my camera and preserve those memories for my families? It’s something I’ll never take for granted. 🤍

Because one day, the hospital bracelets will be tucked away, those tiny feet won’t be quite so tiny, and you’ll wonder how in the world they were ever that little.

And you’ll have these photographs to remind you.

I’m still trying to figure out how we got here so fast.

Pretty dresses, golden-hour sunshine, and the kind of laughter you can almost hear through a photograph. These are the moments I wish I could bottle up and keep forever.

The sweetest little details. 🤍

Tiny toes, sleepy stretches, the softest little cheeks, a favorite bonnet, a bow that feels almost as big as they are — and sometimes even the family pup insisting on being part of it all. 😂

Every newborn session looks a little different, and that’s exactly why I love them so much. I’m not trying to make every baby fit into the same setup. I want their gallery to feel soft, simple and completely like them.

Because somehow these tiny details are the things you end up missing the most. 🥹

Birmingham moms — wondering what you actually need to pack in your hospital bag? 👀🤍

After three babies of my own, years working as a Labor & Delivery nurse, and now photographing brand new babies in Birmingham hospitals, I’ve seen hospital stays from a few different angles. 😂

So I finally put together my Hospital Bag Checklist for Birmingham Moms — what I’d pack for Mom, baby + your support person, a few things that are actually worth bringing, and what I recommend having ready if you’re planning Fresh-48 photos.

Because you probably do not need to pack half of your house. 😂

Hi, I’m Alex! 🤍

Owner, photographer, creative director and, more often than not, chaos creator behind 5U Photography. 😂

There are a lot of new faces here lately, and it occurred to me that some of you probably have absolutely no idea who I am beyond the person constantly posting other people’s babies. So… hi. 😂

I’m a wife, mom of three, former Labor & Delivery nurse turned law student turned full-time photographer, and I’ve somehow built a job around two things I have always loved — babies and memories.

Most days you can find me photographing a brand new baby, chasing somebody’s toddler around, helping a mom figure out what everyone is going to wear, editing way too late at night, or coming up with another idea that absolutely did not need to be added to my to-do list. 🤪

I love the tiny newborn details, the chaos of little kids, beautiful light, and photographs that actually feel like the people in them.

And as much as I love making things pretty, the part that matters most to me is knowing these are the pictures you’re going to have when this version of your family’s chaos has passed.

Because the beautiful chaos of today really is worth remembering — and I want to preserve it for you exactly the way it felt. 🤍
