/ : In keeping with tradition, the Labor Day Parade in Newtown today [9/7/2026] also featured top state officials, including Rep. Jahana Hayes [1]; Attorney General William Tong [2]; Senator Richard Blumenthal [2, 5]; State Senator Tony Hwang [2, 3]; Secretary Of State Stephanie Thomas and Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz [3]; Governor Ned Lamont and Senator Chris Murphy [4]; Treasurer Erick Russell [4, 5]; and Rep. Mitch Bolinsky [8]. There were also candidates for office in November, and some are tagged in the pictures (as Facebook is inexplicably limiting our tags).

/ : The Fairfield Museum and History Center presented a Revolutionary War-era re-enactment today [9/5/2026] for America250, starting with an encampment in the morning. Later on there was a simulated battle between American and British troops, featuring the firing of cannons and muskets. There were some lighthearted moments along the way - such as after the Brits' first gunshot, when an American solider yelled out in a singsong voice, "Missed me!" (As you can see in the 12th picture, not every soldier would be so lucky.) The re-enactment will be presented again on Sunday, with encampment starting at 10AM.

/ : Saxophonist and clarinetist Paquito D'Rivera closed out the first Wilton JazzFest on Schenck's Island on 8/29/2026, presented by Wilton Library. Several of his selections were tributes to his influences, from Chick Corea and Dizzy Gillespie to Astor Piazzolla and even Mozart. He even worked in a bit of "Blue Rondo À La Turk" in honor of the late Dave Brubeck, whose archives are held at the library. The day's festivities were hosted by Mark Ruffin [9], who's been an on-air personality at SiriusXM's Real Jazz channel for nearly two decades.

/ : The final show in the Fairfield Museum and History Center's latest Jazz Fridays series on 8/28/2026 featured guitarist Paul Bollenback, joined by drummer Ryan Sands and bassist Matt Pavolka. After performing originals like "Swingin' At Capone's" and "Also", the group covered several standards, finishing with Dave Brubeck's "In Your Own Sweet Way". (It would be the first of two tributes to the late local legend that weekend, and we'll post about the other tomorrow.)

/ : Nikki "D" and the Sisters Of Thunder brought a raucous energy to Ridgefield's Ballard Park on 8/25/2026, part of the final week of shows in ChirpCT's 25th season. In addition to giving audience members a chance to take selfies with her, Nikki also covered a bit of "9 to 5" in response to the sad news of the day - even shouting out, "We love you, Dolly Parton!" (As we stated here last month, Southern Avenue had covered that song during its own show in Ballard Park just twelve days earlier.)
