A few of the baby white pine trees I spotted were in full sun and beginning to yellow so I rescued all 4 today.

They were all on a hill in wood chips on top of landscape fabric. The roots were just starting to pe*****te the fabric. Hopefully I didn’t disturb them too much.

Now for the fun game of not-to-wet, not too dry, and finding the right amount of sunlight. Then figuring out whether to overwinter inside or out 🤔

I planted raspberries along the doe run fence because I know rabbits love the leaves, I love the fruit, it should add some shade eventually, and I’ve never had trouble getting raspberries to grow.

I get a handful every time I go out, and occasionally a leafed out branch droops within a rabbit’s reach and they get a treat 🤣 here’s the result. I moved the stem so maybe the fruit will still ripen 🤷‍♀️

My PSA for the day…

I don’t have a solution for mosquitoes. I use deet, natural sprays, dryer sheets, anything that might work and there’s still a bite or two anytime I go out to work.

But if you haven’t heard of the bug bite thing, you’re missing out. If I use it on a bite, it may not instantly stop the itch but a few hours later there is no sign of the bite. Untreated bites itch for days.

Highly recommended!

Daughter brought me a taste of South Dakota from her trip a few weeks back. This is good stuff, especially drizzled over vanilla ice cream ❤️

Blades got done yesterday. Had to order new bolts ‘cause that 3rd one was disintegrating.

Mowing now takes half the time, not having to overlap 50% and basically mow every square foot twice 🎉

What kind of bird do you think left this behind?

Silly bird, my chicken bedding in the wagon wasn’t a good place to nest. The egg was dry & empty, so no, I did not displace a momma bird.

I love the color of chicory blossoms. I was so sad to discover it’s non-native and probably invasive, but it came with the house (and it’s all over the place in this state) so I’ll just enjoy it ❤️

My new flyswatter arrived today. The old one crapped out on me last week.

Overkill? Probably. Worth it? Maybe not. More enjoyable than shooing flies away or smacking them with a traditional swatter? Definitely.

Bonus feature- when you’re holding it, 90% of the flies disappear. Leave it out of reach, they come right back.

Peppers are doing fantastic this year. We had a very dry spring so I was in no hurry to put them in the ground. I think I got them planted the last week of May.

The next few weeks, I watered with rainwater captured off the garden shed, but since mid-June we’ve had rain every week to 10 days. Haven’t had to run the hoses yet. Hoping El Niño continues to funnel just enough our way to keep them happy 🤞

These are the healthiest my pepper plants have looked in the 6 years since we moved here 😁
