It's been a pretty good year for nuts, which is surprising because we've bl had so little rain since May. These walnuts have fallen from just two trees. I also have some pecan trees, most not yet mature, but I got probably 50 pecans this year too, compared to maybe 10 in the past three years combined. It's also a bumper crop for pears. Not that I got a lot myself, but squirrels here sure are fat.

I mixed and poured another 48 sacks of Sakrete today for lumber storage. That makes 883 sacks in this building sofar and about 200 more to go, eventually.

This week, it's time to construct the barn doors, to help with weather protection and security in the barn. I'm in a bit of a hurry to get this done before a very cold and snowy front comes through Colorado in a few days. I'll be headed back to Arkansas for the installation, along with more framing, and a lot of chores to catch up on. The seasonal rains have returned so grass is growing again and need mowing. With shorter days, time limits me on what I can do.

Trying to get as much done in the amount of time I have here. This week I met with the septic design engineer, so things are under way and waiting for county approval. I have two concrete wall pours left and I got one finished in this episode. Also of concern is my huge maple tree. This year, a quarter of the tree is dead. A large branch, 33" in diameter can potentially fall on the shed I built, where I keep equipment.

Kind of funny, the huge maple tree I have, had a branch 33 inces in diameter near the trunk of the tree. The entire branch had died. When I cut it back, I had noticed that in a rotted hollow 30 ft off the ground, a walnut tree started to grow. Some squirrel must have hidden a nut there and forgot it🥴

5 months and 721 sacks of sakrete later, I'm finally finished pouring walls and footings. I'm gonna celebrate tonight! Still need another 300 bags or so for slabs, but that will wait til the barn is up. I absolutely hate concrete work, so framing on the next trip is gonna be a real pleasure!
