In today's society, the role of the military spouse has evolved significantly. No longer limited to traditional stay-at-home parenting, military spouses are now career-driven, often managing multiple responsibilities while supporting their families through frequent transitions.
Our documentary, In the Shadows of Service, highlights this transformation and showcases the remarkable resilience and strength of modern military spouses. Through compelling storytelling, we explore how this community is breaking away from outdated stereotypes and forging a new narrative.
Today, we celebrate two incredible spouses who are helping advance our documentary!
Meet Caroline Schafer and Nikki James Zeller
Caroline Schafer, a military spouse for 22 years, embraces the mantra "Life is too short to not have fun." Her husband of 25 years, Justin Schafer, recently graduated from the Sergeant Major Academy, marking their continued journey in military life. Caroline is the founder of Courtesy of Caroline, where she shares small acts of kindness & courtesies. She also manages and edits podcasts, hosts the Spouse-ly I'MPossible Podcast, contributes to Family Magazine at the Commissary, and is an actor, Including creating the character called Mother Christmas. As empty nesters, Caroline and Justin spend time with their 6-year-old border collie named Murphy. And when they can, they visit their grandson, Calvin, in Berlin. Passionate about supporting military spouses, Caroline believes in the power of community and compassion.
Nikki James Zellner is a content and brand coach that helps brands of all shapes and sizes approach their content with intention. She is a boy mom and a military spouse. Nikki Successfully advocated for a law change in the state of Virginia; testified nationally to NFPA and IFC for CO prevention code updates (successfully); and remain an activist on school safety issues. She brings a wealth of PR knowledge to the campaign for and we're so lucky to have her.
