I am working on a couple of draft greeting cards for Woodland; how do we feel about these? Any suggestions? Are there any other landmarks from Woodland you would like to see as a postcard?

Fourty-Six years ago today, Mount St. Helens erupted, creating one of the most destructive eruptions in the United States.

In the weeks leading up to the eruption, scientists monitored intense earthquakes, steam blasts, and a rapidly growing bulge on the mountain’s north flank, warning that a catastrophic eruption was possible. At 8:32 a.m., the volcano violently exploded after a massive landslide triggered a lateral blast that flattened forests, destroyed homes, and sent ash thousands of feet into the atmosphere.

Nearby communities, such as the town of Toutle, were overwhelmed by ash, mudflows, and debris. Yet despite the devastation, life slowly returned to the blast zone. Over the decades, plants, animals, and forests reclaimed the scarred landscape, transforming it into a living example of nature’s resilience.

Today is a day of remembrance, to remember those whose lives were lost in this event. To remember the landscapes and homes that were destroyed. Today is May 18th, 2026 – Fourty-Six years after the devastating eruption.

Today, the area is protected as the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument.

Though I'm a tad late at sharing this, the Woodland Moose Lodge #2394 Fishing Derby was at Horseshoe Lake today! It had the most kids I've ever seen, so I'd say it was a great success. The Osprey and Eagles were enjoying themselves as well. Enjoy this short collection of the derby!

It's baby season! Tons of adorable goslings out and about, these guys were very cute.🪿🐥
