Things I’ve learned along the way as a photographer:
• Don’t compare yourself to others. I say try because I know how hard it is, especially with imposter syndrome. Everyone shoots differently, charges differently, and attracts different clients.
• Build your portfolio and your skills and increase your prices AS you increase your skills, gear, etc. You want to deliver work you are proud of.
• Stay true to yourself. Your editing, your business, your style. Do what makes YOU happy. Don’t let anyone make you feel like you need to change.
• Your clients will often support you more than friends and family. Sad, but true.
• Connect with your clients & be yourself at all times
• Always be willing to learn. Take constructive criticism, learn from it, and never stop improving. Your style is yours, but there’s always more to learn.
• Gear doesn’t make you a better photographer. I started with a $450 setup and learned everything I needed to. Master what you have before upgrading. “I’d be better with a better camera.” WRONG. 😂
• Keep your marketing simple and authentic. Don’t overdo the text, and please don’t let AI write everything for you. People can tell.
•Make your own ads and flyers. Canva is your friend. Take the time to make things feel like you.
•Be picky about your clients. Not every client is worth the money. Once you start shooting for your target audience and staying true to yourself, the right clients will come. ✨
