Sometimes the secret to success is simply having the right tool for the job. Pliers, screwdrivers, and scissors can only get you so far.

For this client, servicing a fleet of Alphax shutters just became much easier thanks to a set of custom service tools—from a centered retaining ring driver to a custom post driver that indexes into the side notches for safe removal. Better tools lead to better results.

Saddle up, partner. This Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 30cm f/4.5 rolled into town mounted in a Betax #5, sporting a stock fl**ge, an SKG Sinar-style lens board, and a fresh pair of custom caps. Not every rodeo needs fancy tricks—sometimes solid gear and a dependable setup are all you need to ride off into the sunset.

How do you minimize fl**ge-to-focal-plane distance while still keeping the necessary mounting mechanics? Sometimes you have to think outside the box.

For this ultra-thin M58×0.75 to Nikon Z adapter, the real challenge was the locking mechanism. Instead of trying to squeeze in a traditional spring-loaded detent, we used a compact locking screw that engages the lens’s locking slot directly—simple, effective, and ideal for the client’s intended use.

Another 178mm Aero Ektar heads back into action—this time mounted to a Graphic C lens board. To make everything fit cleanly, the setup required front spacing along with a retaining ring recessed into a counterbore on the board to avoid interference during installation. Big glass always keeps things interesting.

With all these wild custom projects, you all may forget we still do the classics too.

This one: a straightforward Tech 45 to Arca Swiss 141 lens board adapter. Simple? Sure. But still machined with the same care, precision, and attention to detail that every SKG project gets.

Lee Filters only goes to M105… but what if you need to turn the dial up to 11? Or, in this case, 110mm.

Custom-made M110×1 adapter for the Lee SW150 system. Because sometimes standard sizes just aren’t loud enough.

Voigtländer Heliar 30cm f/4.5 in a Compound #5 shutter.

Normally people would say there’s no way a Compound #5 is fitting onto a Linhof Technika 4×5 lens board… but that’s before adding a little SKG magic. A touch of “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo,” a dash of “Expelliarmus,” and one firm “You shall not pass!” later, and huzzah—a fully functional Tech 45 setup with proper extension and maximized internal diameter.

Bonus points if you can identify all three movie references.

Another successful session of lens therapy at SK Grimes.

This Schneider Angulon 210mm f/6.8 originally arrived mounted in an Ilex #4 shutter, but after a careful transplant into a Copal #3, it’s back on the path to a healthier, more usable life. Sometimes old lenses just need a little support, a new home, and someone willing to listen to their threading problems.

Nowhere near Halloween yet, but apparently it was time for another Frankenstein project.

Take a Schneider 47mm f/5.6 Super-Angulon in a helicoid mount on a Horseman SW plate, combine it with a NONS Hasselblad back, and suddenly you’ve got a compact custom camera setup.

Sure, Horseman made a Hassy adapter—but not one compatible with the NONS system. This mashup needed a little more care, engineering, and attention to detail to make everything work seamlessly together.
