Peyton Bailey’s As A Living Sacrifice, Bless These Bruised Knees stood out for its evocative title and painterly and powerful artistic expression, inviting us all to take a deeper reading of sacrifice, resilience and the complexities of our collective human experience. Congratulations on being recognized with the Curator's Choice Award for VELVET.

“The figures are tormented, plagued by anxiety at the potential of their eternal damnation. They commit small acts of rebellion, and experience spiritual awakening. My work is an act of defiance, a howl, grief, and a counter narrative, exploring accessibility to the divine and community amongst the exiled.”

Peyton Michelle Bailey is a painter from Athens, Georgia. She holds an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. During her time at the SMFA, she received the Montague Travel Grant and the Dean’s Research Fund. She earned her BFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of Georgia. Peyton has recently shown work in the Fay Chandler Emerging Art Exhibition at Boston City Hall, the 2025 MFA Thesis Show at Tufts University Art Gallery, as well as at Halsey McKay Gallery in Graham Collins’ show Worker’s Playtime.

Congratulations to Jenny Brown for being selected as a juror and crowd favorite for her inventive floral compositions, which bring a distinctive perspective to the natural world and embody VELVET’s exploration of beauty, atmosphere and unique visual intrigue.

Over the past two decades, Jenny Brown has been making art which questions our long held understandings of time, space, energy, and matter.

“As an artist who sees the process of creating art as non-linear, I find that I experience the past, present, and future lives of my subjects all simultaneously. The use of layered antique collage, alongside elements of painting & drawing, provides the building blocks for studying and illustrating the complexities of what was, what is, and what could be.”

Jenny’s work has been featured in several Juniper Rag exhibitions. Her work resonates deeply with collectors, and has found a strong presence in private collections. Over the past year her work has been shown at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha, NE, The Dryden Gallery in Providence, RI, and at the Affordable Art Fair in Boston, MA.

Niva Shrestha’s paintings are inspired by geometric puzzles of architectural elements. She paints both plein air and in the studio, immersing herself in these environments, allowing playful compositions to emerge. Shrestha’s artistic process begins with a strong emotional connection to place, be it her hometown of Kathmandu, her second home in Massachusetts, or other locations she’s visited. Drawing plays a crucial role in her work, aiming to simplify and abstract forms. We are excited to share her work in VELVET, on view now at Juniper Rag Contemporary.

Peter Sandback’s work has once again been recognized with the Juror’s Choice Award, reflecting the strength of his compositions, refined craftsmanship, and compelling subject matter. His ability to unite technical precision with a distinctive artistic vision aligns with VELVET’s celebration of work with depth, intention and a distinctive point of view. Congratulations !

Sandback is a photographer, creating interesting digital montages that he prints on transparent substrates and then foils the back, creating a deeply engaging and luminescent images. His work is mounted meticulously on a matte and framed in a custom hardwood frame that is just as beautiful as the art itself. Peter is also a furniture maker, so the fine details are all there.

We are excited to share his work in VELVET, on view at Juniper Rag Contemporary.

“Some of the darkest parts of the mind can also be the most beautiful, and in sharing that depth, we create opportunity to express more authentically in space. Shadows in the form of shame and grief of memories and dreams often limit our ability to be present and create a more sustainable future.”
Zinoë Martin is a multimedia artist, educator, oracle, and social worker and the creative behind Beauty in Z Eye. Their work in photography, collage, and drawing explores how the subconscious mind speaks to the viewer through art. Martin is a member of Haus of Codec’s Vendor Committee and supports the planning and ex*****on of upwards of ten art markets per year in Providence. They are also a resident oracle and tarot card reader at Apothecorner in New Bedford, MA, a q***r owned metaphysical shop. For VELVET, their work explore how softness and chaos can coexist. After all, perception obfuscates elegance for those who fear to look closely and think critically.

We are excited to share their work in VELVET, on view at Juniper Rag Contemporary

"My photography begins in the space between what is visible and what is felt. I am drawn to fleeting light, layered shadows, softened edges, and the quiet strangeness that can surface in an ordinary scene. I find such interest in creating work considered edgy or surreal—images that unsettle the familiar, resist easy interpretation, and invite viewers into an altered way of seeing. Whether I am photographing a solitary figure, an architectural line dissolving into darkness, or an object made unfamiliar by night, I look for images that feel suspended—part memory, part dream, and not entirely resolved."

Sara Beth McCabe is a Massachusetts-based photographer whose work explores storytelling, human connection, social justice, and the unexpected beauty of everyday life. Working in digital, 35mm, and medium-format photography, she creates narrative and documentary images that bring visibility to experiences and stories that might otherwise go untold.

We are thrilled to share Sara's work in VELVET.

Melissa Parent's work reflects connections with nature through a feminine lens, often being inspired by folklore, vintage pop culture imagery or objects, as well as cultural and familial traditions. Her work explores the spiritual and energetic elements of nature that influence her, igniting the work with color and texture that make the work portray that same vibration.

"My recent artistic focus has been exploring the relationship between humanity and nature. The human species are made of the same elements as our natural world- our bodies are earth born. Our coexistence with this natural world can be both tumultuous and simultaneously harmonious."

We are excited to share Parent's work in VELVET, on view at Juniper Rag Contemporary @

"Working intuitively, I begin with a visceral exploration of color and texture. The figures that emerge from this process are not idealized. I am drawn to their peculiarities and imperfections. Blending cartoon and nightmare, these visual narratives come from my memories, actual dreams, and daydreams as well as the human stories that filter through from the unquiet world. There are always surprises, and each painting is an adventure."

She holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and an MFA from the Solstice Creative Writing Program in Massachusetts. She lives in Northport, Maine.
