Darton my brother, this day has been a little rough. I cannot explain how much I miss you man. I learned more from you than any other photographer in the world and we had so much more to do.

Rest in peace my friend.

Good morning friends and family,

If you have seen the film, “WALKING WHILE BLACK: L.O.V.E. Is The Answer,” then you know Jameel McGee’s story. Originally sent to prison based on manufactured evidence, once he was released, he reconnected with the police officer that set him up and through a period of forgiveness and reconciliation, the two have become friends and are on a mission to never let this happen again.

Well, Jameel was doing great getting reacclimated in his community when he was sent to prison again for a misunderstanding right at the beginning of COVID. Long story short, he was held for over a year awaiting trial, and after pleading guilty to simply get it over with and get on with his life again, was not allowed to use the “time served,” while he was awaiting trial. This is an injustice that happens way too often to African Americans in this country.

Do me a favor and check out this short video where we sit down with the “original” police officer and discuss how unfairly Jameel has been treated by the “Injustice” System:

FREE JAMEEL MCGEE!

In this short video, A.J. Ali, Andrew Collins, Nathaniel Alston, and Bil Gardiner talk about their friend Jameel McGee, who is scheduled to be released from prison on February 1, 2024 and to help ensure that his civil rights are no longer abused by a justice system in Benton Harbor, MI that has been targeting and abusing him for decades.

If you have seen the film "WALKING WHILE BLACK: L.O.V.E. Is The Answer," then you know some of Jameel's story about being wrongfully convicted of crimes he did not commit. Well, he is unjustly in prison again and with his release date scheduled for February 1, 2024, they are not giving him any information related to his release. He has been a model inmate who mentors others, he has a job lined up, has a place lined up to live, and has family and friends who are ready, willing, and able to support his homecoming. Instead of being humanely treated and being given basic information so that he and others can prepare for his release, he is being mentally tortured with threats to keep him in "for another 10 years just because" and is being treated horribly and spitefully.

Help us let the Parole Board know that there are a lot of people who care about Jameel and want him to come home. The Parole Board Number is 517-373-0270. Please call them and ask them when they plan on releasing Jameel. His Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) number is 256945.

The practices of abusing people who are in prison, and imprisoning people unjustly, must end once and for all.

Congratulations Raquel and Robin for coming up with the MOST locations of my photographs from “Walking About Webster.” Now, I’m looking forward to showing the collection in the Webster Public Library where I’ll hang the original exhibit and even add a few to It.

And the winner is....Big congrats to Raquel & Robin who guessed 9 out of 11 correct locations in "Walking About Webster", photographs by Bil Gardiner on display in September at our cafe gallery featuring talented local artists. Great job everyone who took their guesses! The winners got to take home the photo of their choice, which was a closeup of water at the French River Dam on Mill Street.
