A special shoutout to everyone who messages me with information about things happening around Yakima — whether it’s crashes, fires, crimes, community issues, corruption, or something else that deserves a little more attention and investigating. 👀

The community aspect of this is honestly what I love most. This page wouldn’t be what it is without all of you helping keep me in the loop.

📡 11 new live-feed video cameras using AI to identify people & objects tentatively planned for next week

According to the new list of current and planned Flock locations I received, 11 Dual Lens PTZ Flock cameras are tentatively scheduled for installation during the week of September 7, 2026.

The planned deployments are concentrated in Moxee and Naches, with an additional compute box listed for Naches.

📹 WHAT IS A PTZ FLOCK CAMERA?

PTZ stands for Pan-Tilt-Zoom. These cameras can pan, tilt and zoom, providing live video feeds as well as recorded video.

The cameras use AI-powered video analytics to identify and categorize people, vehicles, animals and other objects and characteristics captured in the video.

The footage is stored in a searchable database for 30 days.

Searches can be conducted using visual characteristics — including things such as what a person is wearing, their appearance, the type or appearance of a vehicle, and other characteristics or objects captured by the camera.

We have already seen these capabilities demonstrated with mobile Flock cameras used at the fair, where searches could be conducted using descriptions of people and what they were wearing.

🎥 30-DAY RETENTION — WITH THE ABILITY TO SAVE FOOTAGE

Video is normally retained for 30 days, but footage can be downloaded and preserved permanently if needed.

Based on the information available, it appears that a reason or justification may need to be provided when downloading footage for permanent retention. I’ll be looking into the exact policy and requirements surrounding this.

💰 COST

Each camera carries an ongoing recurring cost of approximately $3,000 per year, per camera. This does not include installation costs.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: These deployments are currently listed as TENTATIVE for the week of September 7. That means locations or installation dates could still change.

🚨 NON-INJURY CRASH — 28TH AVE & TIETON DR 🚗💥

A traffic collision occurred at 28th Avenue and Tieton Drive in front of MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital this evening.

The crash blocked the inner westbound and eastbound lanes of Tieton Drive for some time, causing traffic to maneuver around the scene.

It was unclear who was at fault. Thankfully, no serious injuries appeared to have occurred. One person was checked by medics for reported arm pain, but medical crews left the scene shortly afterward.

🔥 Another Fire Reported Along Yakima Greenway

Around 5:40 p.m. on August 29, 2026, another fire was reported along the Yakima Greenway path.

The fire was seen from the 16th Avenue area and appeared to be burning approximately halfway down the Greenway trail between 16th Avenue and 6th Avenue.

Fire crews were able to quickly get the fire under control and extinguish it before it could spread further. 🚒🔥

This comes after three separate fires were reported along the same stretch of the Yakima Greenway early this morning, around 2:20 a.m. The earlier fires were first reported near the 16th Avenue overpass, with two additional fires noticed further down the trail toward the Gordon Road overpass area.

There have been numerous fires reported along the Yakima Greenway over the past month, making another fire along this same stretch of trail especially concerning.

🔥 Three More Fires Reported Along Yakima Greenway Overnight

It happened again.

Around 2:20 a.m. on August 29, 2026, the first fire was reported along the Yakima Greenway near the 16th Avenue overpass.

After officers arrived in the area, two additional fires were noticed further down the Greenway, stretching toward the Gordon Road overpass area. All three fires were located along the Greenway path near Highway 12.

There have been countless fires in this area over the past month. Many have been relatively small and able to be extinguished quickly, but one recent fire grew much larger and resulted in power being shut off to thousands of people in the Yakima Valley.

Luckily, these three fires were noticed quickly and taken care of promptly before they could spread.

I did not hear of any arrests being made over the scanner, so at this time, it appears whoever may be responsible could still be at large.

With the number of fires that have been occurring along the Greenway recently, the situation is becoming increasingly concerning. 🔥🚒

🚨 Apartment Fire Reported at The Senator Apartments in Yakima 🔥

An apartment complex near Front Street and Pendleton Way in Yakima caught fire early Saturday morning, August 29, 2026.

The fire occurred at The Senator Apartments, located at 20 Staff Sgt. Pendleton Way in Yakima.

According to a tenant, the fire reportedly started in Unit 69 on the second floor. The tenant said he attempted to put out the fire, which was located two doors down from his unit, using a fire extinguisher. However, he said the extinguisher was weak and was not enough to stop the flames.

He then made multiple trips up and down the stairs, helping residents get out of the building until the smoke became too thick. At that point, he said he waited for the fire department to arrive.

The tenant believes everyone was able to safely evacuate the building. The extent of any injuries is unknown at this time, although no major injuries were observed at the scene.

🚨 Multi-Vehicle Crash Reported on 16th Avenue in Yakima 🚗💥🚙

A multi-vehicle collision was reported around 5:30 p.m. Friday near the intersection of 16th Avenue and Lincoln Avenue in Yakima.

At least three vehicles appeared to be involved in the crash, with multiple damaged vehicles blocking the southbound lanes of 16th Avenue. 🚧

The initial call indicated that three vehicles were involved and that one vehicle was reportedly smoking. However, no visible smoke was observed upon arrival at the scene.

🚒 Fire and EMS personnel were on scene but left shortly afterward without transporting anyone. It is currently unclear whether anyone was injured, though no obvious injuries were visible at the scene.

The circumstances leading up to the collision are unknown at this time.

Medical Emergency Reported at West Valley Walmart

Update: 3:15 p.m., August 28, 2026

A medical emergency was reported at the Walmart located at 6600 W Nob Hill Blvd in Yakima Friday afternoon.

Shortly before 3 p.m., emergency crews were observed treating a person who was on the ground near the freezer section inside the store. Firefighters and EMTs were performing chest compressions, and an automated CPR device had been placed on the individual.

At approximately 3:15 p.m., a white sheet was placed over the person.

The circumstances leading up to the medical emergency are currently unknown. While the situation appeared serious, the person's death has not yet been officially confirmed.

The individual appeared to be an older female.
More information will be shared if it becomes available.

Praying for the family and all those affected 🙏

Update: Yakima Valley Coroner's Van arrived on scene further indicating a fatal medical emergency.

The Moon passing through Earth’s shadow created this incredible deep red/copper glow. Even though it wasn’t quite a total eclipse, it was still an incredible sight to see. ✨

As many of you may know, the terrible accident that happened a few nights ago has sadly ended with Katie passing away. 😔

I wanted to share some information from the family’s GoFundMe, along with the link for anyone who would like to learn more or help support them during this incredibly difficult time. 🙏

"Our family and loved ones have suffered an unimaginable loss with the passing of Katie Jean Miller. Katie leaves behind her three young boys and so many people who loved her deeply. Katie was so much more than a mother. She was a daughter, sister, aunt, and a beloved friend. Most importantly, she was a mom to three beautiful boys who now have to face life without their mother. There are no words that can truly express the heartbreak of losing Katie or the emptiness her absence leaves behind.
