Golden Threads on Neshaminy Creek 🌅

Sometimes nature provides the most unexpected palette.

During the recent Canadian wildfires, the haze created a rare atmospheric canvas over Bucks County. Crouched down low on the slippery flat stones right along the edge of Neshaminy Creek, I caught the setting sun casting warm, fiery light directly through the veil of smoke, leaving golden reflections across the falling water at Castle Valley Mill in Doylestown.

This very waterfall will once again power the historic turbine that operates the Mill—a beautiful reminder of history, nature, and flow coming full circle.

Rebels & Redcoats Classic Car Show 2026: Official Event Gallery

What an incredible day on the historic grounds for the 2026 Rebels & Redcoats Classic Car Show! As the official Park photographer, it was an honor to document the chrome, classic styling, and high energy across Washington Crossing Historic Park.

This year’s show was a massive success, welcoming 218 registered vehicles, hosting 700+ spectators, and raising more than $7,000 to directly support educational programs and student field trips at the Park.

A big congratulations to all of this year’s top award winners:

Rebellious Spirits: 250 Years of Declaring Our Independence

In a stunning visual tribute that bridges two and a half centuries, this staged photograph from the annual "Rebels v Redcoats" Car Show at Washington Crossing History Park merges the echoes of the Revolutionary War with iconic American muscle. Standing proudly in the historic fields where Gen. George Washington and his Continental army made their courageous Christmas crossing in 1776, a Fife and Drum corps forms an honor guard around a breathtaking, dark green 1967 Mustang GT350 Shelby Tribute Car, owned and lovingly restored by Jim Stidhman Jr.

Capturing the essence of a nation born from defiance, this image, titled "Rebellious," encapsulates the enduring fire that led to the courageous signing of the Declaration of Independence. On these very grounds, ordinary citizens stood resolute against a great empire, declaring their inherent right to freedom, a rebellious act that created a legacy of courage we continue to celebrate today.

Grains of Time: The Haze, The Creek, and The Legacy

A collection from my evening at Castle Valley Mill, continuing from last night's post. 🌾📸☀️

While the atmospheric haze from the Canadian wildfires was undeniable, it also offered a unique filter on this landmark—painting the environment in rich, deep ambers and dramatic golds. There is something profoundly moving about seeing this historic structure standing firm, its roots deep in Bucks County since 1730, under such an unusual sky.

Every image captures a different facet of the mill's resilience: from the wide serenity of the Neshaminy Creek and the waterfall (as seen in DSC8819.jpg), to the complex textures of the original stone and timber that Henry Fischer dedicated himself to restoring in 1947, continuing the traditional miller's craft from Germany. That commitment to preservation, not just renovation, is palpable here.

As the sun sets completely (captured dramatically through the reeds in DSC9005.jpg), you can see the results of Henry's, and now Mark and Fran Fischer’s, ongoing work. The machinery isn't just displayed; it operates. Castle Valley Mill stands as the last operating mill of its type from the 1700s, still grinding local grains, and these images, like the mill itself, bridge generations.

A powerful reminder that even amidst the changes in our skies and technology, true heritage—and the dedication to protecting it—will always find a way to shine through.

The Flame of Preservation 📸

There is a profound weight to the air tonight. Under a heavy amber sky, thick with the distant haze of Canadian wildfires, the sun breaks through just past the stone and timber of Castle Valley Mill.

This structure has witnessed the entire arc of our country—from its 1730 founding on land granted by William Penn to the rise of the Industrial Revolution, when water power faded, and so many historic mills fell into ruin. But history only survives when someone chooses to save it. In 1947, Henry Fischer, a traditional miller from Germany, saw this then-dilapidated property and made it his home, pouring his heart into reviving its honest trade.

Tonight, as that filtered orange light catches the old wood, it feels like a tribute to that enduring spirit. What Henry started, Mark and Fran Fischer proudly carry forward today, keeping alive three centuries of American grit and ingenuity.

The sky outside may be altered by distant fires, but the fire of preservation inside these walls burns as steady as ever. 🪵☀️🌾

Southeastern PA Haze: A Day of Smoky Skies from Canadian Wildfires

Starting our day in southeastern PA, the sky already choked with smoke from the Canadian wildfires, as captured in the first 3 shots taken early this morning. The orange, obscured sun was a stark reminder of the long-distance impact. As evening fell, the second set of 3 shots shows the sun still battling the thick, grey haze. And finally, the last shot shows the area completely consumed by the monochromatic, grey blanket of smoke. What a day.

Talk about a proud moment behind the lens! 📸

My two worlds have officially collided in the latest issue of River Towns Magazine. I am incredibly honored to serve as a photographer for both the magazine and Washington Crossing Historic Park, and seeing my work featured throughout this Summer 2026 edition is a massive privilege.

From documenting Executive Director Jennifer Martin to capturing the vibrant living history programs that bring our local heritage to life during America's 250th anniversary, this project has been a labor of love.
