A few years ago, Airstream hired me to photograph their new Heritage Center in Jackson Center, Ohio. As a kid we tent camped throughout the USA and saw a lot of Airstreams on the road and in campgrounds. We were always a little jealous when they pulled into campsites. America’s most iconic travel trailer.

One of Ohio’s most beautifully curated attractions — a 𝟏𝟔,𝟎𝟎𝟎‑𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐞‑𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐮𝐦 dedicated to the history, craftsmanship, and cultural legacy of Airstream travel trailers. Located at Airstream’s headquarters in Jackson Center Ohio, the Heritage Center preserves nearly a century of 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞.

Inside, the exhibits walk you through the Wrights’ 1904–1905 experiments at Huffman Prairie — the flights where they mastered 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝, 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭, made their first turns and circles, and laid the foundation for modern aviation. You’ll also find displays about their 𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐅𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 (𝟏𝟗𝟏𝟎), where more than 100 early pilots were trained, including future military aviators.

Visitors can watch the park film “𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬: 𝐎𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬” in the auditorium, then step outside to explore the 𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 on Wright Brothers Hill — a 27‑acre landscape featuring a 17‑foot granite monument.

Tucked into the quiet corner of 𝐎𝐚𝐤𝐰𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐀𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞 & 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐧𝐮𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐞, Smith Gardens is often described as “a secret treasure on an ordinary side street” — and once you step inside, you understand why. This beautifully maintained garden may be less than an acre, but it’s overflowing with color, charm, and peaceful character.

From spring through fall, the garden bursts with seasonal blooms — lilacs, magnolias, and layered plantings that attract butterflies, birds, and small wildlife. Benches are spaced throughout the grounds, making it a favorite spot for quiet reflection, reading, or simply enjoying the flowers. Photographers love it too, especially during peak bloom.

The charming garden house hosts beloved Oakwood traditions — including the annual 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞, summer 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐬, and children’s 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫. Weddings, small gatherings, and tours can also be arranged, adding to the garden’s role as a true community gem.
