We saw this coyote enter and exit a river otter’s den on the edge of the Yellowstone River this past winter. We were not sure if the otters were in the den at the time but we waited to see who’d come out first. We saw a river otter store fish in the den the day prior. She came out empty handed this time.

The elusive Pine Marten. Part of the weasel & otter family. They are about the size of a small cat & climb like squirrels, living in tree hollows. Fun to see these in the wild. I’ve had 2 sightings so far.

The American White Pelican migrates south each winter and have been stopping recently in East Tennessee. They work as a team to surround the fish then scoop them up with their long, throat pouch bill. They have a huge wingspan up to 9 feet with black wingtips.

Fun to watch river otters playing around in the wild. This one was on the Lamar River in Yellowstone. I wasn’t lucky enough to see them catch any fish. Maybe next time.

After a long nap, this Red Fox awoke for a short time. Looking at me with a funny smile.
